    Decent place to work

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack

    Pros

20% discount except for special days, discount increases to 30%

    Cons

Management encourages unhealthy competitiveness with opening "rewards" cards. Claims it is free money to be made, but of course, it shows up on your pay stub- you are taxed for it at the end of the year.

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good pay. There seems to be a lot of opportunities to grow with the company.

    Cons

Lack of training and organization - the management was less informed than the part-time associates. The company throws you to the dogs on your own - but doesn't follow up either, so slacking off is easy to get away with. There are too many unnecessary rules and procedures that get in the way of completing tasks. This also gets in the way of helping the customer (There is almost no service beyond the cashwrap).

    Pros

Benefits are available to everyone, the pay was great, I enjoyed the hours most of the time, off for like all holidays pretty ,much, very team oriented, amazing managers

    Cons

Couple managers would always sit in the office and do "paper work" and text and talk to other managers and do nothing all day pretty much (only a select few managers)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great place to work other than the few slack managers who did nothing most of the time. Make sure to continue to reward your employees and keep an eye on your managers/

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The discount is great at the rack. During peak season you will get plenty of hours. Work goes by pretty fast.

    Cons

I would complain about the work seduce but hey its retail. That us why I chose the accessories department. We usually are the first department to finish during closing time. Besides during peak season the amount of hours are cut in half. To be able to transfer is different for everyone. It took me 2.5 years for them to give me the ok to transfer. I have been applying but no response.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fyi I have management experience. 75% of you take advantage of your position to slack off. You can also prevent lines from forming if you got on the register instead of us who are actually doing something.

If you can keep a cool head in a very, very fast paced environment, the benefits, quick promotions, and networking are WORTH it.

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company takes care of you. If you're a good employee, they will try to promote you quickly. And if you put in the work and effort, the company loves to promote from within. The possibilities are endless. Plus, health insurance, reduced stock, 401k - it really is a good company.

    Cons

It's a very fast paced environment. You need to be able to keep a cool head and be very patient. If you can't, the Rack isn't for you.

I have been working at Nordstrom Rack as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits if they give 32 hours. Were told our schedule is based on performance. Pay to start is good for retail. good dept. managers.

    Cons

crazy since we started setting up the store. no floor training with mobile sales devices.and customers. to much pressure to open up credit card accounts for customers. the customers hate this. no balance for work and kids. video of owner telling his united way health case. he can afford to donate, most of us cant. very low employee morale and many are looking for jobs. store manager that humiliates employees in front of customers and in morning meetings with coworkers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop asking the customers with credit card offers, its not that good . Give employees jobs other than putting clothes away from rude customers. more training on mobile devices so customers dont get impatient with employees.
