I worked at Nordstrom as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The "team atmosphere was amazing!!! Everyone really helps each other out and really tries to make work time fun by enjoying the strengths of each other.
Learned lots of fun and interesting facts about how the company started and where it plans to go.

    Cons

It's long hours on your feet and since its commission only you can at times make very little money. You also get little time off sporadically and have so much to do on your days off it's hard to feel rested.
It also takes a long time to get to a particular position you want in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try helping people who want a corporate career path get there without having to go through all the steps that don't interest an employee.
Consider a base plus commission structure.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nordstrom is a relatively great place to work. You drive your own business, so the pay is up to you. Money can be good, as long as you work for it. Hours are flexible, and Management is for the most part supportive.

    Cons

At times, you can feel overworked and undervalued. During slow times, the sales are hard, but the long hours and hard work remains the same.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly, challenging culture. It forced me out of my comfort zone, which I loved, thanks to the commission based salary structure. All of the people that I worked with were helpful and really wanted to see me succeed.

    Cons

Although the commission based structure challenged me, I worked in a slower store and some times found it difficult to make sales regularly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would have liked to know more about moving up the ladder at Nordstrom. It seemed that information was reserved for associates handpicked by managers.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I like working here because what you put in, you get out. There is room for growth and so many employment opportunities if you happen to find yourself in a department you don't like. Paid time and flexible schedules make a full time job work for you. The discount is awesome and quarterly you receive a larger discount for a short period.

    Cons

political and competitive atmosphere, returns, inconsistent paychecks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    great job

    I worked at Nordstrom full-time

    Pros

They treat employees well and customers even better. Sometimes they hire really poor managers though.

    Cons

Working on commission is highly cutthroat, also you have to be able to handle repeated rejection in the form of large returns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bonuses for salespeople so turnover would decrease.
