    Pros

Make your own paycheck, good sales training/workshops, provide you with feedback of performance every pay period, opportunity to move up with company, good training in being customer service oriented, good experience in learning commission sales

    Cons

Must be very mobile in order to move up within company, need to work in high volume department/store to make decent amount of money, must build customer base before you reach a lot sales, a lot of competition between employees to get a sale

    Advice to Management

make sure to store manager is someone that is warm

    Pros

Good sales (if only the people would keep their items), you get to run the sales floor, fun to meet and satisfy new clients. Good company, depending on the branch.

    Cons

Unfair scheduling (even when you give 2 months notice), management looks to get you for every and anything, management lies, unfair competition, no real policies towards coworkers, paycheck will be empty when people return their items, the medical insurance is a complete rip off. Watch out for management, they gossip like teenagers and try to hold people down that threaten their position. Happened to me personally.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be better and more knowledgeable than their employees...If the Seattle branch could see some of the other branches, they would likely throw everyone out and start over again.

    Pros

-Decent discount -flexible work schedules -sometimes can leave work early if you're not scheduled to close and store traffic is slow I would say this is a great place to work while in college or while your not fully financially supporting yourself, as the pay is very inconsistent. Also a decent place to work part-time if you're looking for supplemental income

    Cons

-commision pay structure based on exceeding sales goals (This can be difficult with departments with high return rates, as returns count against you. If you dont exceed your goal, you'll make around $9/hr :-/) -terrible PTO policy and benefits (you have to work there for forever and a day before you get PTO or benefits.Benefits are expensive in comparison to other department store retailers and relative to your pay)

    Advice to Management

Be consistent, give constructive feedback to all employees, and don't play favorites. Also try to discourage sale-stealing within departments. With all that said though, all in all, I would give management a decent score here (at least in comparison to other retailers I've worked for)

    Pros

Always was trained to provide the best service to maximize relationship and experience for the customers. Environment was very upbeat and fun towards goals.

    Cons

As any retail job would bring I'd say you just have to have a stomach for long hours, even on the weekends.

    Advice to Management

None just keep doing what you are doing!!! Management is always upbeat and motivating to encourage you to reach your goals and gain incentives.

    Pros

House 20 discount on everything. Fun & creative co-workers.

    Cons

Nordstrom has a policy of promoting sales staff to department managers and therefore has crappy managers. Just because someone looks good on paper does not mean they can manage people. They're promoted based on their sales #s and not personality & leadership. Besides that, most of the time they sit in their back offices with their "favorites" applying make-up, drinking coffee, etc. It's like a bad sit-com.

    Advice to Management

When promoting managers make sure they can manage a department. Put them through management & leadership training before giving them a department to rein over. Nordstrom is a great company but you're missing the boat and losing good sales people to Bloomingdales because they pay better and their managers are aren't trolls.
