I have been working at Nordstrom

    Pros

Good pay, everyone is super nice, coworkers are great, good managers, quick hiring process, nice perks for opening a Nordstrom Reward

    Cons

Nordstrom Rewards goals were high, cared more about high UPT's rather than sales, hard to switch departments even if a different one is clearly a better fit for you

    I worked at Nordstrom

    Pros

Atmosphere, fast pace, competitive wage, safe environment, friendly customers and co-workers

    Cons

Inflexible work schedules, less opportunity for older workers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The store manager is hands-on with the staff and creates a motivated team like I've never before witnessed. John Banks was in leadership when I worked at the Fashion Valley (San Diego, CA) Nordstrom as the "Holiday Helper" in the Visual Department. He blew me away with 1) learning my name, 2) his daily broadcast pep talks, 3) consistent presence on the sales floor and off. (During one of his frequent sales floor interactions, he rescued a petite designer dog belonging to a customer that got stuck in the escalator!)

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The environment within the store is one of commaraderie amongst coworkers who are helping drive the same sales goals for the store. There is also the right amount of healthy competition to allow personal performance and achievement to be recognized with an emphasis on driving your personal business goals. The company is extremely relational and focuses on building lasting relationships through hard work, customer service, and stewardship of resources to show complete effort in helping a customer.

    Cons

Depending on the department one works in, it is hard to make a paycheck that will support a steady lifestyle. While it is doable, it may take a few years to build customer relationships that will allow for consistency in business which makes the income not completely reliable.
