This company give you a lot of freedom and allows you to make as much as you want based on your work ethic.

The cliques made between older managers and employees was definitely a con.

I have been working at Nordstrom (more than a year)

    Pros

Working at Nordstrom is like working with family. They take care of you and care about you. The starting pay is very good too!

    Cons

There are no cons that I can think of, seriously. if you consider a warm, friendly, trendy, happy working environment an awful thing then you won't like it there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open door policy, management will work with you not against you through most situations. I got hired 1 week before I delivered my daughter. Management held my position for WEEKS to care for my newborn, and allowed me to start when I wanted. What retail company does that!?!?

I have been working at Nordstrom

    Pros

the people are great. I have made several new friends in my department and outside of my department as well. Around Christmas time you can actually make decent money. The company is a great place to start young. I can understand how the employees who are out of highschool or still in college remain enthusiastic. If you can keep up morale, it is fairly easy to move up in the company, but it takes patience and a lot of time with low paychecks to get somewhere substantial

    Cons

Work life balance is difficult considering the hours. I only work 5 days a week and approximately 36 hours, but still have little time to do things socially when most of my friends work monday through friday. Low pay- the return policy is ridiculous, and sometimes it feels like there is no point to selling a lot because it only comes back off your paycheck with returns. Nordstrom puts the customer first, so we take back almost all returns, but the fact that it comes back out of our paychecks regardless of how long ago items were purchased makes it seem like the company doesn't care at all about sales associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

hire more staff and be around more- little sense of direction
