Pros
The company has a global reach into tons of big clients. The opportunities to learn about the industry are big! In my office, hours are flexible, and folks are bright and pay is competitive. The software does a lot, and has potential.
Cons
Personal Development isn't supported
Hardware is over 5 years old
Hard to move up.
Software Development seems somewhat shortsighted, often incurring more software debt, rather than investing to fix recognized flaws that would make the code base more extensible.
probably this organization should invest in more talent to handle the work-load, but that doesn't happen.
Advice to Senior Management
Although your software has tremendous potential, and can do a lot, its dated feel, and heavy debt from not refactoring recognized 'red' areas makes each new feature very expensive, and makes work tough for clients, ultimately giving it a bad sell.
Pros
People are very firendly, good atmosphere to work in
Cons
No defined career path available
Advice to Senior Management
Work on providing career path growth options to individuals.
Pros
Norkom is a growing company with development opportunities and interesting technical challenges. Norkom has good work from home policy and now merging with Detica to become a bigger company.
Cons
Norkom does not have the advantages of scale that larger companies get. This impacts compensation and sometimes leads the company to be shorter sighted in building out their product.
Pros
City centre location
Easy-going staff
Relaxed atmosphere and professional
Good benefits
Time-wise Rational use of meetings and mailing
Cons
No canteen (not a real con)
Low bonus on year performance revision
Low salary reviews due to economy downturn (despite the growing of the company)
No career evolution in the long term
Advice to Senior Management
Stop announce just how many new clients and profits the company made in the year at the same time low salary growths are coming.
Work harder to keep valuable members on the teams working for the company rather than disappoint them with low salary reviews.
Pros
There is not a lot of politics here as in other bigger companies. Leads and Coworkers are easy to get along.
Cons
The nature of the work is less satisfying. There are a lot of surprises as for what you work on since there is no long-term plan.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should forecast projects in the pipeline more ahead of time so that there is less surprises for the team memebers.
Pros
Wide range of open source technologies used in the product, there is a good mix of nationalities and gender.
Cons
Salary and compensation, the company pays as little as they can get away with. They work you to the bone with little or no thanks, compensation. Too many 'Archtiects'/(Dinosaurs)/'Senior Engineers' who are in my opinion, surplus to requirements and are only trying to justify their own jobs. Questionable recruitment also. Experienced multi database DBA urgently needed.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop people leaving the company by compensating them fairly.
