    Pros

Excellent team spirit, great focus on people, fantastic technology solutions, and some first class systems and processes that I have not found elsewhere

    Cons

The big con is that the company went into bankruptcy protection and eventually the different parts were sold off. the perfect storm of global financial crisis, some poor acquisitions, an accounting scandal and some poor managerial decisions led to its demise.

    Advice to Management

For all those who were involved in the decisions which ultimately led to the company's collapse, the advice is that important decisions really do have a potentially hugs impact on the business - and that impact can be catastrophic when it is poorly executed.

    Pros

nortel was a stable workplace. it had good 401 k matching, like 100 % match up to 5 %. work environment mostly relaxed. lt had a reasonable to good work life balance

    Cons

it wasn't really a successful company. the stock never did well. people were not super motivated across the board. there was a lot of lackluster coworkers

    Advice to Management

they need to motivate employees more. have a strong policy to enforce performance. better vision in marketing for product roadmap.

    Pros

At Nortel, if you are new graduate, you will learn a lot of technology. From program language, code standard, to telecomm. protocols, you also got professional training. This helps your future career. Nortel was too nice to employees.

    Cons

At Nortel, sometimes you feel the overlap of product developments. Also there are some employee just came for earn money, instead they did not make contribution to code.

    Advice to Management

Unfortunately Nortel was gone. I cannot make advices to the management team. I know some of the managers moved to RIM, then they made RIM gone. The culture of Nortel is too good to allow lazy people stay here.

    Pros

Nortel was a large company and had a lot of opportunity to find your position. They also invested in product development.

    Cons

Financially unstable. Management did not see the reduction in the telecom industry and did not react quickly enough.

    Advice to Management

Need to review and react more quickly. Also need to improve the level of accountability for each senior manager.
