    Pros

A great community of people who care for the same end result. You are never held back because of who you are or what you do.

    Cons

The stress of seeing your co-workers (friends) getting laid off. Not knowing what the future holds and how the end result will be for you

    Pros

great experience great company company. The benefits were greats the environment was great.
I really thinkNortel should come back and canadian govt should back it

    Cons

too focused on cisco and forgot to create a date centric work force. Wireless plans were greats but lacked the aggression of ericsson and nokia

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

should have bought companies that were complementing not just for the sake of buying.
ALU and NOKIA are good examples on how to survive.

    I worked at Nortel Networks

    Pros

Best Reasons: Opportunity to move into different positions within the company. Rewarded for work on special projects. Laid Back environment.

    Cons

Massive Layoffs since 2000. The employees that were recently laid off prior to backruptcy recieved no severance. There were too many layers of management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many layers of management. Too many acquisitions that did not add value to the company. Failure to merge with other players when concolidation occured.

    I worked at Nortel Networks

    Pros

Very bright people, very polite and respectful, management was very open to career changes, challenging work on new technology

    Cons

Nortel did a lot of in-house development of tools/development environment. Experience with these tools does not make you marketable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Next time, try to avoid bankruptcy. Have a better vision of what the market will need.

    I worked at Nortel Networks

    Pros

My mangagers were easily accessible and always available to help out. The company payed for all expenses when engineers had to leave town to work on projects so that was a benefit.

    Cons

Some of the more experienced team members were selfish and conniving. They were not great team members or role models. It was just a negative experience working with them. The managers were great but that did not make the situation with some of the other team members less distasteful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The concerns of entry level employees should be paid more attention to. It is not poor adjustment capabilities if an employee feels shut out of a team.
