    Challenging work. Flexible schedule. Excellent pay.

    Repeated layoffs. Too many management changes.

    Notify employee of the reorg before it shows up in a company wide presentation.

    Pros

    Some of the most talented engineers worked at Nortel.

    Lack of experienced managers and lack of good Sales force

    Be aware of how products progress. Keep a close relation with the engineers not to lose them

    Pros

    People, technology, on the job training, benefits, compensation, conferences, networking, travel, diversity, bonuses, salary, incentives, invention awards, recognition, automated systems and services.

    Cons

    Bankruptcy filing, repeated multiple criminal investigations, stock option loss, pension fund transferred to PBGC, layoffs of many good friends, uncertainty and confusion.

    Advice to Management

    Tell the truth.

    Work/family balance until around 2000.

    Cons

    Sr. Management killed the company and couldn't downsize as they needed to scale back.

    No upper management left as the company is Bankrupt.

    Technology challenges faded, but business acumen sharpened by slow demise over 10 years

    Cons

    Tough to work for a company in bankruptcy followed by liquidation.

    Pros

    Company had a large corporate structure with great benefits and many very experienced members of their team.

    Cons

    They were going bankrupt and people were afraid of being laid off at any time (like i was). The company would lie to employees saying everything was great, and then let another group go.

    Advice to Management

    Be honest and upfront with where the company stands.
