I worked at North American Lighting full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good manager in optics. He reduces stress in position. Group is great and very supporting. Most the people are very calm and nice.

    Cons

Noncompete clause, lower than market salary, not willing to work with your needs after hired. Low raises. <3%. Not always given time to finish and deadlines not reasonable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with current employees needs and promote to open positions.

I have been working at North American Lighting full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security, Reasonable pay and benefits, Offers opportunity to gain employment at all skill levels in multiple rural locations

    Cons

Upper management is isolated from reality operating in an environment of overconfidence in their ability to plan/manage without input from those they control. Each crisis is reacted to with a new procedure loaded on top of existing systems that are dysfunctional and not followed. It is very frustrating to make efforts toward improvement only to be blocked by entrenched poor business concepts and archaic systems. Employees will not stay when there is no path to success and no recognition of extraordinary effort.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step outside the company and seek advice from consultants who understand how efficient businesses are structured and operate. Leave the past behind and put current technology systems in place to allow you and your employees to be effective. The company is too large to continue attempting to manage it via a menagerie of Excel spreadsheets.

Find a fair way to compensate good and excellent performance. The previous system was cumbersome, disconnected from individual effort and, resulted in essentially reward by lottery. The flaws of the system were not corrected, the system was eliminated removing any possibility of employee bonuses. Actions like that exacerbate the situation of low morale and high turnover. Show employees you appreciate their effective work through some appropriate, focused, personalized incentive plan. Maybe some good employees would stay.

    Pros

Great benefits. 401K, profit sharing, health & dental.

    Cons

Lack of training, long hours, unorganized management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than focusing on what already happened, need focus on new and upcoming projects. Too much time spent on meetings.

Upper management should let everyone do what they were hired to do, their job. Too much micromanaging.

I have been working at North American Lighting full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are great. Pay is good.

    Cons

Hours are better but still working 6 days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging. By doing this, you are stifling creative thinking, initiative, and overall participation. You preach ownership of our work but at the same time, we are not the ones that own it, it is upper management. Let us do our jobs, stay in your office.

I worked at North American Lighting full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    The money and the benefits

    Cons

Everything Else !! Poor Management Starting at the TOP !! Company culture is based around doing what your told and do not think outside the box.... The tooling management feels even though they have been locked up within the walls of NAL for many years . They know it all and do not care to learn new ways. The management does not care about employees coming or going and have a dime a dozen approach to employee relations...They out right LIE on written yearly evaluations to hold you back and keep you down....They are trying real hard to move everything down to Paris , Illinois.....Which is good if you like living among corn fields.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try harder to realize that your EMPLOYEES are the ones that create a need for your paycheck !!! The world outside is changing right in front of you ... Technology will pass your BLIND eye by.... and you will not last....Your old ways are exactly that OLD....Please take the time and read these reviews .....All of them are true except for the positive ones.....!!!!
