I have been working at North Atlantic Industries

    Pros

They hire a lot of interns every summer and it it seems they want to find out what you are good at, and then let you work on that however you can.

    Cons

It takes a bit of effort to get the other employees out of their shell to try and have a conversation. We are engineers although so that is to be expected I guess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people to streamline and organize the corporate and production structures. Also there needs to be more documentation on everything.

I have been working at North Atlantic Industries full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Could be a good company if it had better management. The owners have personality flows and is amazing that they did not drive this company into the ground. Don't get fooled by good reviews from phony employees.

    Cons

The bigger owner (90% of the company) is a guy with no background in electronics who tries to make decisions about things he doesn't understand. He relies on the smaller owner who is an engineer but has no people skills and treats everybody like crop. He is also a terrible communicator and it's hard to understand what he wants you to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making stupid changes and appreciate the good people you have. You already forced many good employees out, keep doing this and soon you won't have anybody capable of doing the work.

    Pros

NAI is developing electronic systems using the most advanced architectures on the market. This allows an engineer to be intellectually stimulated and rewarded when the goal is achieved. Raises are well above the national average. In addition, end of year bonuses are generous.

    Cons

Work environment is not hi tech. Although there are plenty of tools, there are no laboratories. Just one big open space for all departments to work in. Getting crowded. Literally working on top of each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A new professional work environment please.

I have been working at North Atlantic Industries as an intern

Great hands on experience, manager and other engineers always willing to help if you have any questions. You also work on a real project that other engineers are also working on and feel like you're part of the team.

    Cons

Some equipment is outdated and needs to be replaced

Management is great, positive outlook for future, documentation and inter division comm. a bit lacking/old school

I have been working at North Atlantic Industries as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The relationship between management and employees is very amiable, but still professional. Management is well versed in their corresponding fields. Interns are given work versus "busy work". Company is performing very well in its industry. Healthy work-balance, deadlines may stress that, but only occasionally.

    Cons

Communication between divisions is shaky, which leads to inefficiency. However, it is very easy to go find and talk to someone from a different division and clear up whatever miscommunication may have occurred. Code documentation is lacking. Not consistent enough coding standards used, very clear that different projects were produced by different people (or multiple people worked on one project). Company employees generally consists of middle aged workers, however, CEO is adamant on hiring younger personal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve inter division communication. Enact rigorous coding standards/policies for readability and easing employee transition.

    Pros

Close to home and Fridays off during the summer months 10/80

    Cons

In-fighting of management of various groups, staff suffers greatly. Immediate supervisor provided no support for this turmoil, looked out for his own back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the two SMT guys you brought in and find someone who knows something about the industry.

I have been working at North Atlantic Industries

    Pros

Close to home, not much else.

    Cons

Word out in the local workplace is that NAI is a terrible place to work. Lots of current employees looking for other jobs, unfortunately the local market is tight. They have to resort to having HR post a glowing review to counteract the truth. Beware, more posts will probably be coming from HR and management!!
