I worked at North Carolina State University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

A pro to working here is flexibility for students with class schedule however the pay is very minimal as they like to hire many students at a low rate.

    Cons

Like many places, there are a lot of politics involved and questionable actions are made despite being against mission statement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation for student and grad student workers need to be increased.

I have been working at North Carolina State University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are good if you started working for the State of North Carolina before 2003. Pretty good job security. Each office/department/college is different so do not assume any stated about one area of campus will be true for all areas of campus.

    Cons

The current state government does not value state employment as a whole so we have not received a noticeable pay raise in 7 years. The current state government also has cut funding for higher education each year they have been in office, and plan to do so again in the next year's budget.

I worked at North Carolina State University full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

increased paid time off every 5 years or so..
option to attend one course per semester at reduced rate
Some flexibility depending on department and job duties
working with students was rewarding most of the time

    Cons

although eduction assistance is offered, it became increasingly difficult to take advantage of this due to increased work load. Much of this due to recent layoffs due to budget constraints. Remaining positions were required to absorb vacancies. Benefits definitely not what they were several years ago. Raises have been nearly non-existent for several years, again due to state budget constraints. Raises are across-the-board for SPA staff - unless your annual review was below a 3. Banding promised merit increases - which we never saw.
Difficult to learn about all training options university offered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. This seemed impossible - at least in my department, but should be across university as a whole.

I have been working at North Carolina State University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to work with excellent t research environment and a state-of-the art library. Though it depends very much on the particular group that one is working with and the supervisor, I'm very happy with my adviser and the overall research opportunity. Besides, there are couple of really excellent courses that help in honing other skills besides being groomed as an expert in one's own research realm.

    Cons

There is not much scope of practical experiment in the field of wireless communication. The research is more on the theoretical side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more experimental facilities for wireless and digital communication groups.

I have been working at North Carolina State University part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Schedules are flexible. You can arrange your time for preparing the class session, office hours, etc. As a part time job, it's great.

    Cons

It's temporary. The job ends as the semester ends. You have to be assigned to next employment in the next semester.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More training would be better
