    Pros

Salary provides a level of flexibility due to cheap living conditions in the Raleigh area. Depending on professor, the hours required vs. efficiency of progress towards a doctorate can allow for a manageable work/life balance. I chose correctly.

    Cons

As a graduate student you are compensated for "half time" (ie 20 hours per week) but expected to work whatever it takes to get the job done (dependent on professor's expectations).

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to get a raise every now and again to deal with the rise in rental prices/cost of living (Graduate research assistants at Duke receive +$1000 each year).

    Pros

The Centennial Campus is wonderful. Lots of new buildings and labs. Staff is always quick to make sure you get paid on time etc. (Which isn't always the case for graduate students.)

    Cons

The pay is not very high compared to many other schools.

    Advice to Management

Offer higher RAs in order to attract better students.

    Pros

Everything about working for the athletic department was a joy. My co-workers and superiors we're all an ease to work with and made my internship that much better.

    Cons

It's hard to find a con about my time working there. If I had to point out a negative it would be the that parking is very scarce so first come, first serve.

    Pros

Great scholarly environment. Many faculty are doing great science, and the atmosphere is very collegial.

    Cons

The business administration is not nearly as helpful as I have experienced at other institutions. Purchasing, grant submission, reimbursement are all more challenging than they need to be.

    Advice to Management

Too much bureaucratic red tape to be really efficient at your job. One example - why have an online leave system, yet make employees turn in printed paper copies of their leave twice per year?
