Ability to create a real learning environment without too much oversight. Staff are superb and are truly helpful in many departments. Ability to reach out and receive help immediately.

I worked at North Carolina State University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

increased paid time off every 5 years or so..
option to attend one course per semester at reduced rate
Some flexibility depending on department and job duties
working with students was rewarding most of the time

    Cons

although eduction assistance is offered, it became increasingly difficult to take advantage of this due to increased work load. Much of this due to recent layoffs due to budget constraints. Remaining positions were required to absorb vacancies. Benefits definitely not what they were several years ago. Raises have been nearly non-existent for several years, again due to state budget constraints. Raises are across-the-board for SPA staff - unless your annual review was below a 3. Banding promised merit increases - which we never saw.
Difficult to learn about all training options university offered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. This seemed impossible - at least in my department, but should be across university as a whole.

I have been working at North Carolina State University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good if you started working for the State of North Carolina before 2003. Pretty good job security. Each office/department/college is different so do not assume any stated about one area of campus will be true for all areas of campus.

    Cons

The current state government does not value state employment as a whole so we have not received a noticeable pay raise in 7 years. The current state government also has cut funding for higher education each year they have been in office, and plan to do so again in the next year's budget.
