    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, learn a lot of practical lab skills, helpful environment, flexible schedule. Lab manager really cares about safety and protocol.

    Cons

Student pay is minimum wage, student employment has no upward mobility and immediate benefits, but this isn't department specific.

    Advice to Management

Could use more help to keep organized and put together more on site formal safety training.

    Pros

Collegial and very down to Earth faculty, no unnecessary airs. Kind of place you really want to settle down and be productive

    Cons

Salaries below market rate. But people still stay because of the Pros outlined above. Eventually, college will have to reset salaries to IL levels if it wants to retain the top talent it seeks.

    Pros

Was immediately set up with a 'mentor' who took me around, made appropriate introductions, and really helped me get a feel for the beautiful & historic campus. The spirit of the school extends well beyond the students and into the faculty and staff -- people really take pride in being there. Great benefits (health packages, tuition, etc.) and perks (Campus Coffee, discounted events, on-site medical, etc.) and a warm environment makes it a great place to work.

    Cons

Although the perks & benefits are great, the pay is low until you make it to management-level. As well, there are quite a bit of politics involved, and if you are not a favorite and/or in the "right department,' your career may not go anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Shake up management a bit with accountability.

  7. Lackluster experience - Free education is great though!

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Tuition remission for full-time staff and family members of full-time staff.
Good vacation benefits (if you can find time to use them)
Good retirement fund pay-in by employer
    Ever-changing community of staff

    Cons

Compensation severely lacking for administrative staff
Good vacation benefits, but with how much work you are expected to do, good luck using it without worrying about work every step of the way
Little upward mobility in most departments

    Advice to Management

Pay employees appropriately, they will stick around longer.
@HR: Allow employees to negotiate compensation without getting defensive like children.

    Pros

Very flexibly with schedules. Manager is great.

    Cons

Overstaffed and you wont get any hours

    Advice to Management

    Stop over hiring.

    Pros

Good environment for work life balance
Office culture is good (was better prior to last president leaving)
    Benefits are typical

    Cons

Pay for the positions and area is extremely low in comparison to surrounding schools. Turnover has increased over the 6-9 months. Previously majority of staff stayed anywhere from 5-20+ years.

    Advice to Management

Participate in a wage comparison, its unfortunate that people who work in Naperville, could afford to live there.

    Pros

I was able to pick the hours that I wanted, the workers and bosses were all very nice and friendly, I wasn't looked down on because I was new to the job, and direct deposit was mandatory so I didn't have to worry about picking up a paycheck.

    Cons

It was minimum wage, there wasn't an opportunity for growth as an employee, and sometimes there was too much downtime in the winter.

    Pros

The hours were very flexible for students like me. My supervisors were very friendly and approachable as well as every other person in the IT department. This is the type of environment where you work extra hard because you really respect the people you work for and with.

    Cons

As I was a specialty student worker, my pay was only 25 cents above minimum wage. As a smaller school, there really is not a lot of opportunity for advancement.
