I worked at North Dakota State University full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked in an applied research laboratory at the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE). The research was engaging, fun, and collaborative between scientists and engineers. The equipment was cutting edge and unique for a university laboratory. The salary was excellent for a university lab. While I was employed at CNSE the pay was competitive with industry which can be rare in an academic setting.

    Cons

The only major drawback of working at CNSE, from my perspective, was the uncertainty of employment surrounding the competitive research funding cycle. This was ultimately the reason I sought out employment elsewhere and left the University.

I have been working at North Dakota State University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to learn at your own pace in a friendly environment while being challenged and learning a lot along the way.

    Cons

The enviroment may be a little too laid back, you don't feel encouraged to try harder than you need too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say look over all of your workers and evaluate them in their relative departments.
