  1. One of the most pleasant experiences that I've had as a software developer, the people in the company are simply 5/5.

I worked at NorthPoint Solutions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Talented, smart coworkers, and interesting clients. Good opportunity to learn about Financial technology. Fellow grunts are friendly and very approachable.

    Cons

Heavy on the office politics. Depending on what team you get thrown on, your experience can be wildly different. Compensation wasn't competitive, and salary has increased 56% since leaving. Projects are approached with frantic patching to quickly resolve issues rather that putting effort into fundamental underlying flaws. It was like a daily fire drill. Just point to the left when assigning blame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management tends to lose sight of the forest focusing on the trees. Give employees feedback, training, and career direction. Time is wasted explaining comma placement in emails and what color shoes were worn to a client site rather than product implementation. Expectations are that you just put your head down and do what you are told with no consideration given to alternative solutions. Rampant micromanagement is counter productive to solution generation

    I worked at NorthPoint Solutions

    Pros

Good employee benefits and employee development programs

    Cons

Poor placement strategy when you are out of a project. If you are out of a client site after project completion, you are considered as an outsider with little support to join any other ongoing protects

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please support your people when they come out of a project and help them to move on to any existing project by providing proper training, guidance, time and motivation.
Please don't let them down and feel that you don't care them

    Pros

Professional environment, many different projects, lots of growth.

    Cons

It's really a staff augmentation company, not a consulting company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat employees like cattle herding from project to project based on availability.

    Pros

Partners accept, rather than reject, alternative thinking to achieve not only the goals of the client, but the goals of the firm

    Cons

As we care more about providing a place to be creative with upward mobility and leading edge solutions over getting wealthy, we sometimes lose prospective employees to the highest bidder

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need to market ourselves better to get our name out in different arenas.

I have been working at NorthPoint Solutions full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There are very supportive and professional people working at Northpoint. Working as a consultant is the best thing for a computer programmer, you are open to many different technologies, ideologies, techniques. As a consultant you are never stagnant, you get to learn new languages or new techniques since not all projects are a like, you meet interesting people. Working in different and some pretty amazing companies gives you an opportunity to learn to communicate with different personalities and adapt to all kinds of situations. There is a lot of growth opportunities at Northpoint, since you can start as an Associate and grow all the way to Senior Manager or even Partner. They have a culture of promoting from within as well as teaching their employees by having "lunch and learns" and all other learning opportunities. I do feel like they are my daytime family, we do some fun things together too, so it's not always all about work.

    Cons

For me personally there are really no cons here. I would agree with other reviewer here that sometimes projects are not 100% estimated but I think that's a normal agile planning issue that exists in any place where planing is not easily achieved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

. I am very happy with people I work with and who manage my projects. I believe there will be an opportunity for the managers to take some workshops on how to be a better at communication.

    Pros

Good office perks, management is very approachable. Hours are reasonable.

    Cons

When working on project onsite, it's easy to feel disconnected from the rest of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure consultants are more involved in the company during onsite projects and follow up more frequently regarding their career progress.
