    Ups and downs, mostly up

Technical Analyst (Current Employee) Edmonton, AB (Canada)

ProsOverall this has been a good place to work. When necessary training has been and is available, certifications and professional development encouraged. Possibilities are there to move between roles and departments.

ConsOver the years there have been some tough times, management and staff occasionally seemed to lose touch. Not all departments are created equal either.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Overall good but depends on area/dept

Advisor (Former Employee) Edmonton, AB (Canada)

    ProsGreat people
Good pay including benefits and pension
10 days off at Christmas break
    Good training
    Instructor 90
    Contract 45/hr
    Director Range 114-137
    Manager Range 95-114
Front office/clerks 30-65 (highfor specialized roles like advisors)

ConsToo political, lots of favoritism. Cronyism and nepotism in all areas and levels. Leaves employees questioning leadership.
NAIT way is preached and not always followed
Lots of turnover in leadership (seems good people are all leaving)

Advice to Senior ManagementStop cronyism and nepotism. NAIT Way now means No Way for promotion or equality. Too many new leaders brining in own people. That happens everywhere but it's seems more so now then 10 years ago. Heard some in Student Services call it NAITQuest (too many from NorQuest College). LOL!

Part-time Instructor; great people, but very 'institutional' in operations...

Instructor (Former Employee) Edmonton, AB (Canada)

ProsI worked with some really wonderful and intelligent fellow Instructors who were experts in their field, particularly some of the program heads. NAIT also provides good tools to assist new Instructors, including courses for Instructors, modern technology, and a responsive IT department.

ConsWhile some of the Instructors were 'with it', others were long past their 'Best Before' dates. Some areas of the curriculum were sadly dated and it was far too tedious and lengthy of a process to bring content up to speed with the modern world.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider evaluating some of the more tenured Instructors and Program Chairs against modern methodologies and technologies, and replace them as necessary to make the courses and programs more relevant for the real world.

    An exercise in daily survival

    Management Excluded (Former Employee)

ProsSmoking banned on campus keeps the cancer victims on the edge of the property.

Consdirty; sexist; racist; heavy mix of incompetent people who outright lied about their qualifications but are related to someone so they're hired! Most are married to one another, or are the children of someone, and/or are sleeping with someone there. It is a cesspool of rednecks posing as a post-secondary institution. Laughable, at best.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive the place an enema.
