I worked at Northern Illinois University part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

You're allowed to pick your own schedule. And the management team is really cool about class schedules. They understand that school comes first. All in all it was a pretty cool student job. It paid OK for a student job. Most students have no professional web development experience. Even the manager of the students which is a Graduate student is not required to have any web development experience. A lot of the students have no experience whatsoever, so if you come in with experience, you're going to feel frustrated when your not able to practice your normal development practices.

    Cons

    - Outdated technology
    - Management is not open to change

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain the development environment, and pay attention to the community behind the technology stack you use. Allow for positive change. Don't be afraid of change.

I worked at Northern Illinois University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a student worker I had a great experience working for NIU in the library. The hours were very flexible and they were always willing to work around my finals schedule

    Cons

The pay is not amazing but that is expected as a student worker. We did not get raises but also we weren't working there as a full career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work! NIU is a great school and takes care of their students!

It was very fun working for the university. They took in mind my school schedule and worked around it. I had a very good time.

    Cons

Many of the jobs offered to students are only for those who qualify for the work study program. However there's only a few regular employment opportunities.
