Pros – The seasonal employees are simply incredible. Returning staff members go out of their way to make sure that new hires learn the ropes quickly and are able to provide the best experience possible to the scouts.

Cons – The pay wasn't too great, but that's par for the course when you're working for the Boy Scouts of America. Then again, you do this job because they pay you to go canoeing, not because you want to get rich.

Advice to Senior Management – Hire more seasonal employees. I know you have a budget to work with, but being understaffed makes your workers exhausted, which results in a subpar experience for the participants.

Pros – Wonderful leadership experiences, opportunity to live in a paradisaical setting, opportunity to meet many fascinating young and older people. Working outdoors, working with kids.

Cons – The pay was low, and the hours were long (24-hour days for 7-9 days in a row; 215$ a week). The management was also a little understaffed; they highered too few employees for the seasonal demand.

Advice to Senior Management – Find more competent intermediaries. Get back to your original goals of youth guided wilderness experience and dedicate yourself to hiring enough guides to do so!
