it has been really good!

Administrative Assistant III (Current Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat co-workers, bosses, and decent benefits.

ConsSadly as with all companies in this current environment, benefits are getting cut back.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't let the bean counters run your company. It is the employees that make or break a company. Do right by your employees and they will do right by you!

Opportunity with excellent benefits

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time for more than 8 years

ProsPresence in 49 states. Plenty of opportunities depending on your skill set and where you are would like to live.

ConsMust relocate in some circumstances to take advantage of advancement opportunities. Even though the company offers educational benefits, the company does not take advantage of the fact that the company funded a degree program and actively advance one's career.

Engineering Intern

Engineering Intern (Former Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I worked at Northrop Grumman as an intern for less than a year

ProsWorked as a government contractor so it's difficult to give a fair review of Northrop Grumman as I didn't have much of a chance to experience to culture at the actual company. That said they seemed to offer a decent salary (for internship), good experience, broad company with many locations and projects, potentially interesting work.

ConsFairly unorganized internship program, no formal training program, didn't have much work for an intern, got placed in a random group doing mostly IT work, didn't line up especially well with my background/degree in ME

There's good and bad but OK Overall and would recommend Northrop Grumman in these lousy economic times

Project Engineer (Former Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time for more than 8 years

ProsNorthrop Grumman has good benefits (health, 401K, vacation, PTO although there is no sick time) and the daily work schedule is flexible.

ConsPoor annual raises, if any. Cumbersome performance appraisal processes. Juvenille and cliquish managers. Poor ethical environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementGrow up

This applies to the technical services sector. Information systems was an excellent sector to work for.

Senior Software Developer (Former Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time for more than 8 years

ProsCompetitive salary and good benefits. Job quality depends on the sector of the company.

ConsNorthrop Grumman is really three companies in one. There is no cohesion between the sectors. Contracts were constantly under bid with the hopes that somebody would "create a miracle". It was very clear that management was out to maximize their bonus.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn how to bid proposals, take better care of your hardworking employees. Work on treating employees with respect instead of just a cog.

ProsLarge company can move you around if you need to. They have good benefits and flexible time off. Good orientation and onboarding program.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work and continue getting employee feedback via surveys.

Not willing to pay for talent.

Software Engineer II (Current Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIts a job.
I like the people I work with.
I like my managers.

ConsNo rewards for hard work....ever.
Travel benefits were excellent, not any more.
Any mistake you make in travel scheduling or reimbursement may cost you personally, or require VP level approval to correct, 4 Months to get a single approval.
Sr. Management is the worst waste of time.

Advice to Senior ManagementSee ya.

Good Company to gain experience and build a career

IT (Current Employee)
Colorado Springs, CO

I have been working at Northrop Grumman

ProsGood Company to work for
Salary is fair
Benefits are very good

ConsCommunication is slow or too-late
no recognition for work well-done
Be careful about getting "pigeon-holed" into a position with no chance of advancement.
they try to back-end shift-pay into your base salary amount

Advice to Senior ManagementStart listening to employee concerns. Talk to employees more(in your charge) and promote career advancement rather than always trying to flatten the organization
Allow employees to advance their careers by moving around to gain more experience in other areas which will benefit them and the company
