I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Working as a Software Engineer in IS was a great experience. NG is very focused on helping employees build their skills and grow their career. Almost every single person that I met there was of impeccable character and was fantastic to work with. The projects were challenging and interesting and I got to work with a lot of emerging technologies. Their middle and upper management all came from an engineering background so they understood what was required to build something of value. Benefits were fantastic and the pay was also on-par with industry standards.

    Cons

NG is a HUGE company so some things were a bit on the bureaucratic side of things but that is hardly avoidable with an organization of this size. There was a disconnect between business development and engineering. Sometimes it was hard to find others in the company at large who might be working on the same or similar projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that the business development folks have a better understanding of what is going on with projects, especially R&D, so that those new capabilities can actually be deployed with customers.

    Pros

Northrop Grumman is flexible and willing to work with your personal needs.

    Cons

There is many times you will be asked to work long hours to meet the company goals

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay employees overtime when ever they work over time. Contractors always receive overtime and employees are put down for requesting it.

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great cafeteria soup. Chicken Enchilada.

    Cons

All sites are different. This is for Azusa. All of the good, kind, people-loving managers get forced out, and the soul-less task masters rise to the top. Employee morale is low. Shift work is often mandatory. Holidays can be forced work days. To quote a program lead "Holidays are working days too." Reduction in Force culls occur approximately every 18 months. Annual raises have been depressed for 5 years. Vacations have been reduced and sick days removed for unequal PTO tradeoff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees have been made expendable for short term profit. Don't expect loyalty from them in the future.

    I worked at Northrop Grumman

    Pros

A progressive company that encourages personal growth that leads to advance ment. A true pleasure to work with talented and devoted co workers.

    Cons

The sensitive economic climate in government contracting leads to downsizing in this industry. Job security is tied too closely to the defense budget.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to look outside the box in the retention of highly motivated and dedicated employees that bring value to the northrop Grumman standard of excellence.
