I worked at Northrop Grumman as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The 9/80 schedule was a major plus. The managers are firm but do not micromanage.

    Cons

Things can be slow at times for an intern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For some internship positions, a clearer description and focus could be developed.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman

    Pros

Good salary, great benefits, every other Friday off.

    Cons

Culture is basically broken. Most folks here are retired in place and do their best to make up work as an excuse to fill out their time cards. There are few really smart, highly capable individuals who carry most of the load but otherwise the engineering organization is 2nd rate at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline engineering processes and bring in new leadership.

Great work place, friendly environment, salary too low

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Actual work seems to be challenging (if you're lucky enough to get a good tech lead)
    Get great hands-on experience
    Friendly environment
    Great benefits

    Cons

Difficult to move up in the company
Salary too low for skill set
Some tech leads don't approve of new ideas for more efficient algorithms

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more recognition awards, promote people, acknowledge them, speed up IT.
Other than that, everything else seems to be great.
Honestly, it is a great place to work but salary was low especially when you find out what some others make with fewer skill sets and less motivation.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Mobility within company, great people, amazing products and technology. 9/80 schedule, educational reimbursement, health plans, on-site cafeteria, credit union, doc/nurse, health coordinator, employee resource groups (ERG).

    Cons

Politics, politics, politics, the "good old boys club" runs rampant, ignorant uneducated management (mismanagement), poor (none) design-for-manifacturability, HR is corporate and on the side of the company not an advocate for employee, NEPOTISM from the TOP down (hiring and promoting incompetent, unqualified people based on bloodlines, personal relationships, shared foreign nationality -hint hint Middle East), harassment and different treatment of women, rewards and awards programs"revamped" designed to minimize opportunities for employees and reduced $ amount of awards, employee reviews based on politics and quotas (allegedly) from corporate (think of that one horrible teacher in college who only gave two A's max no matter the merit), regular layoffs, layoffs based on management politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be leaders, not sheep. Do the right thing and do the thing right, be ethical, hire, reward and promote on merit and potential not on personal relations,

    Pros

There are lots of challenges at the Woodland Hills site with lots of opportunity to shine.
The products they build are very strong and have a lot of heritage.

    Cons

As with most manufacturing, work is leaving California, so be prepared to move or get laid off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open and honest and communicate often to keep the work force from being stressed while working hard.

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

NG is a huge company, so there are many different places to work and types of work to do. I felt that my pay was pretty good straight out of school. Lots of money to throw around, potentially.

    Cons

Bureaucracy galore. Doing anything requires a process, checklist, or form. This does not mean that everything works well or even reliably. Even such things as "improving employee engagement" turn into an exercise in filling out surveys, going to meetings, creating action plans, etc... instead of realizing that employees just want to feel appreciated and valued as people instead of statistics...

    Negative Outlook
