I worked at Northwest Independent School District full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity limited only to effort applied. Foundational expectations applied with outcomes of measure, vs. applicability.

    Cons

Annual expectations exceed reality of student to parent support. Teachers expected to sustain tutoring beginning in January of academic year, concluding at close of such.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your educators; they are in the trenches, rarely with student to parent accountability. Sadly, so often it is "T" to the second power; teach to test.

    Pros

Ahead of the curve in the aspects of technology and academics.

    Cons

Schools are spread out because of the size of the district which causes some disconnect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remain focused in students and their success.

Great pay; poor benefits, even poorer morale.

I worked at Northwest Independent School District full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They pay really well, the population you get to work with is pretty good overall. The students are intelligent and try hard. Parent involvement is also pretty good.

    Cons

Their benefits aren't too good. It seems as if the higher salary is a trade off for poor benefits. They also have a hidden curriculum that encourages teachers to be work-aholics, and tend to micromanage their employees.

I worked at Northwest Independent School District

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for continuing education.
Good salary as compared to surrounding schools.
Latest technology and plenty of resources.
District is in a nice area in which you always feel safe.

    Cons

    Too much top down management.
Constantly have to document your work and student's work.
So much documenting for administration's benefit that it takes away from teaching and planning time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your teachers and give them time to teach.

I have been working at Northwest Independent School District

    Pros

It is the highest paying school district in the state of Texas. The Barnett Shale in the north Fort Worth area is creating new jobs, new homes, and new schools. This is an excellent reason to be in a district that is booming.

    Cons

The district is growing so fast that some schools are over crowded. Some schools are located near heavy traffic areas such as highways and entertainment venues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management is doing an excellent job of keeping up with the times in technology and curriculum. Northwest has excellent training programs and provides many learning opportunities. Some schools however, should consider more of a balance between support and competition.

I worked at Northwest Independent School District full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay, administration, forward thinking with educational philosophy. Lots of opportunities for professional development.

    Cons

Communication is difficult due to districts large size. Sometimes you will have to work some pretty long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have regional boss to bridge the gap in the district.
