Pros – Medical benefits are outstanding, and a real family atmosphere. Depending on the department, no daily micromanaging, easy to get time off, and expanding opportunities in some areas. Students are respectful, hard working, and responsible. Easy to approach upper management about certain issues.
Cons – Lack of communication or collaboration across departments, lowest salaries in the state (amongst community colleges) and small-town attitude about many issues, not looking at the future. The town has little to offer in terms of cultural activities; most employees commute to the campus, as well as students. Facilities are inadequate--classrooms are small or need updating, some buildings in need of major remodeling/construction, and more student housing is needed.
Advice to Senior Management – Communicate with everyone, not just a select few. Look outside the box--flexible work schedules, flexible class schedules, and new programs
