    Pros

    Great location and nice facilities.

    Cons

Can be hit or miss in terms of working environment for RNs. Depends greatly on the specific unit and manager.

    Advice to Management

Make the working environment better for your RNs.

    Pros

Teaching hospital, great place to learn and grow as a nurse, great co-workers

    Cons

For me the only thing I can complain about is my hour long commute each way

    Advice to Management

Engage more with the staff. Usually the only time management speaks to staff is during reviews or for disciplinary discussions.

    Pros

Great health insurance, professional management and communication, thorough training, "patients first" manta upheld, highly respected company

    Cons

No sick or vacation days- PTO is deducted for any absence, no matter what the cause. This forced employees who are ill to come to work if they don't have enough PTO, causing the spread of illnesses within the workplace.

It is nearly impossible to have your voice heard by management. Any requests or even feedback takes years to be addressed, if it is addressed at all.

    Advice to Management

Having an allotted amount of sick days will prevent the spreading of illness in the workplace, especially in the Immediate Care centers.

    Pros

Flexibility, collaborative, dynamic. The mission, "Northwrstern is an academic medical center where the patient comes first" is something to get behind and a guiding force for decision making

    Cons

Decision making can be very slow. There can be a lack of transparency regarding important and wide-sweeping changes to the organization. Leaders who message changes don't seem well informed or equipped to message change well.

  8. Good work experience in a field I never thought I'd be in.

    Pros

Good benefits, excellent institutional reputation, decent compensation. Time-off/PTO accrual allowed for a quick buildup of days to take off. Easy commute to work with access to public transportation.

    Cons

Sometimes asked to spin straw into gold. Senior leadership didn't always grasp lack of communication between departments when brought to their attention. There are not always smooth ways to move up within the organization.

    Advice to Management

People skills, people skills, people skills. Value and respect employee's ability to get work done. Not all managers are 'equipped' to truly manage and bring out the best from their subordinates.

    Pros

Great staff! Knowledgeable providers, Evidence Based Practice incorporated into patient care, Friendly management, great facility in prime location, latest equipment and technology, busy so a new grad can get a lot of experience

    Cons

Very high volume of patients, very demanding patient population, high turn-over in staff, not enough breastfeeding support staff (only 2 LCs)

    Pros

Good benefits, job security, nice coworkers, good food court, good location, looks good on resume before quitting for something better.

    Cons

The hospital overworks the nurses. For the most part my floor got rid of respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, PCTs for night shift, food service only drops off trays, no set up and no removing trays. Staffing by ratio not acuity. IL state is an acuity state so floors should never be staffed by patient numbers. The organization understaffs to keep budget low. The money made by organization each year is reflected in management bonuses. The head of NMH's bonus after salary was 15 million. Nurses need to learn their rights and demand change. Employes don't be fooled, many hospitals are losing money due to recent healthcare changes but nmh is not one.

    Advice to Management

Return the Nightshift techs, don't understaff to keep your budget under. Stop making nurses do the job of housekeeping/food service/transport/respiratory/phlebotomy/etc. Stop ratio staffing when IL is an acuity state and should be staffed accordingly.
