Pros
The pros of Northwestern Mutual include job security, freedom of schedule, ability to advance, make your own income, control you fate within your career.
Cons
Time consuming position with a strain on the overall quality life in the beginning. It is tough to get off your feet but once you do it is wonderful.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up all of the great work within your development programs. As far as I am concerned that is some of the best training I have received in my entire life.
Pros
Great opportunity for your own career path and advancement at a great company with good ratings and a good work ethic. You can determine your own destiny.
Cons
You have to be self motivated and be able to get tasks done on your own as you dont have a boss or someone overlooking you.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership is where you want it to be, I would not have any suggested advice for leadership at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.
Pros
I had the opportunity to take a position with NMFN as a College Financial Representative and thoroughly enjoyed by experience with the company. Access to great resources for continous learning and the people were great.
Cons
The only negative thing I would pull out of the internship would have to be the stipend amount. Not much money at all.
Advice to Senior Management
Personally, I didn't ever have an issues with management I came in frequent contact with. I woud say keep doing things the way they are and continue to progress overall as a company.
Pros
Control over your own success.
Cons
It can be a slow start.
Pros
-Great training and mentor system.
-Get what you put into it.
-Ability to earn a ton of money.
-Best in the industry.
Cons
-Starting off is ridiculously difficult.
-False impressions of the rate of success.
-11% retention rate for employees.
Pros
Great work/life balance for a working place
Cons
No steady pay each week
Pros
Flexibiliity, compensated for your level of work, and sense of completion.
Cons
Long hours, need to be able to deal with rejection every day.
Advice to Senior Management
None!
Pros
Work your own hours, meet with who you want to me meet. NWM offers a great product and as an employee you are treated with great respect. It's a great resume booster and really is a great opportunity to gain experience. Also, the annual meeting is amazing its 4 plus days of going out and having fun with all of you co-workers.
Cons
No personal live, awful pay, selling before advising. I should have known better when the training at the company had nothing to do with the products being offered but how to sell them. The commission rates are low and for anyone starting out who has bills to pay you will be very broke. This is a job for someone with a ton of contacts and some opportunity to be poor for 2+ years. My biggest gripe is the lack of personal life. NWM calls it prospecting to gain potential clients, so every event you go too you try to meet friends but just for the sake of business. It makes for some awkward moments later. If your in desperate need of a job, or a heck of a salesman than this is the place for you otherwise I'd stay away.
Pros
If you can last in the business there's a lot of money to be made.
Cons
They don't care about their employees. Especially their interns.
Advice to Senior Management
Interact more with your interns. Spend some money to train people.
Pros
It's easy to get a job here.
Cons
All they want you to do is sign up your family and friends. no leads
