Undergraduate Student and ASRSP Worker

Clerical Aide (Current Employee)
Evanston, IL

I have been working at Northwestern University part-time for less than a year

ProsI work in a great environment where everyone is friendly and willing to help. Working at and attending Northwestern as a student is the best thing to ever happen to me because of its diversity, the opportunities it offers, and the exposure to the business world.

ConsI cannot identify any cons. Northwestern truly is the place to be for a great education and for the opportunities it has to offer.

Pretty good overall

Lecturer (Current Employee)
Evanston, IL

I have been working at Northwestern University full-time for less than a year

ProsPeople are friendly and open. The management is very supportive of course innovation. Students behave themselves generally and study hard. Full of resources if you want to expand your academic career. Nice scenery.

ConsThe internet system is not stable every day. Classrooms are slightly insufficient because there are too many students. The winter here is too cold (chill factor is terrible)!

Advice to Senior ManagementI can't think of anything at this point. Good job since I got here. Keep the good work.

Enjoyed working there, did not really help much with career.

Postdoctoral Fellow (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Northwestern University full-time for more than 3 years

ProsEnjoyed working with co-workers and interesting work. The research staff was generally friendly and willing to help.

ConsVery little career development, projects disorganized with little direction. Management absent mostly and interested in high risk projects. Like most research laboratories they hire a bunch of people for high risk projects and little money left over for proper budgets for projects.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time on laboratory organization and project management.

Chemistry Department

Graduate Research Assistant (Current Employee)
Evanston, IL

I have been working at Northwestern University

ProsMany well-known professors, if you work in their lab, you will likely have no problem finding a job once you are done.

ConsToo many egos in the department. The classes were useless because the professors didn't put any effort into teaching. Overall, the department does not care about students.

Advice to Senior ManagementGraduat students do your research. They should be treated with at least a little bit of respect.

Great environment and collaboration opportunities in a multidisciplinary research setting.

Research Assistant Professor (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL

I worked at Northwestern University full-time for more than 3 years

ProsMedical school campus is right at downtown by the lake, The research facilities are outstanding, and a great collaboration opportunity with the clinicians.

ConsCommuting to NU downtown campus without any train lines in the vicinity could be time-consuming.

Advice to Senior ManagementMany layers of administration makes things difficult and time-consuming. More open discussions about the practical problems could be one way to resolve.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Review of temp assignment at Northwestern University

Data Assistant (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Northwestern University full-time for less than a year

ProsLaid back casual environment in a great location in Streeterville. Generous benefits and tuition assistance when you are a permanent employee.

ConsManagement had no idea what the employees were doing. Co-worker spent 8 hours a day on FaceBook and doing her homework. No one seemed to care because she was cute and bubbly. This had been going on for years. When she was called on this by a co-worker, she got the woman fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou can't effectively manage someone from another campus/location.
