  1. Its like High school drama all over again...

    Pros

It has good pay. It is weekly pay.

    Cons

Too much drama. Some leads treat you like your a little kid.

    Advice to Management

Tell the leads not to yell at their workers like their bad people.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Northwood Manufacturing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is better than most in this small town location.

    Cons

Gossip, sexual harassment and bullying are rampant. Promotions are based on looks or nepotism. These jobs are not at all easy and require training; many different tools are involved. But there is a distinct lack of care in ensuring that new hires are prepared for positions. This is both dangerous and counterproductive. The benefits are minuscule. The company culture is toxic.

    Advice to Management

Hire people that have actual business training to run the office and HR department, and hire people that are trained to manage without entirely autocratic attitudes. Promote based on skill and knowledge rather than "who knows who".

    Pros

Compared to competitors in the industry, N.W. pays better (there's a catch discussed under the cons). They do offer full bennefits and paid vacation after a year. Many of the emp[loyees are very good at what they do and have been with the company for qute a while. N.W. has ran in such a way that it made it through the recession in tact while a larger, bigger named competitor went under. The owner of N.W. has been fair to his employees.

    Cons

Back to the issue of pay...about 30% of your paycheck will come from a bonus based on the plant's performance during the pay period. While this is usualy a good chunk of change it can also be disappointing at times. If you are more than a total seven minutes late during a week or if you are sick you loose your bonus. This could mean the difference between a $300.00 check and a $450.00 check. The worst thing about this company is that it is in a small town where jobs seem pretty sparse. This means there are ten people waiting at the chance to take your job. Management knows this truth and use it as leverage over employees. There's nothing worse than feeling like you are expendable. It is also a hard place to be accepted at. New employees are treated so poorly. In the time that I worked at N.W. (1 year) I saw 5 new guys come into the shop, get chewed up and spit out in just a matter of a few months each. There is litle diversity in this work place.

    Advice to Management

A friendly work environment is a productive one. Try dishing out some cudos sometimes!
