    Pros

Lot of great experience with great, happy people that love their jobs.

    Cons

Wish the internship wasn't at such a weird time. Only seven weeks long.

    Advice to Management

Create more internships that are for more than healthcare professionals-business related-for the school year.

    Pros

I love most of my coworkers and that's about all i can think of. 20 word minimum fulfilled.

    Cons

very stressful environment, patient overload, some nurses don't think they should have to do small things like taking their patient water because that's "the aide's job"

    Advice to Management

put a cap on how many patients aides are assigned just like the nurses have a cap on how many patients they have

    Pros

A lot of skilled employees with great industry knowledge. Caring staff at the hospital level

    Cons

Culture needs work. Insconsistent from one facilitly to the next. No sense of cohesiveness, Too many program of the month approaches. Political climate difficult to navigate. Old boys club mentality. Management too far removed from day to day operations.

    Advice to Management

Focus on culture and retaining employees. Salaries trail the market in many areas.

    Pros

My coworkers are great-- the best reason to be there and only reason I keep my sanity. Also, several "break" activities are offered for staff: pet therapy, massage, art, etc.

    Cons

Not enough staff, at least the floor/dept I'm in. Caring for too many patients at a time, unsafe in most staff opinions, except those who can change it. High stress most days. This is the first hospital I have worked for that I would never take a family member to. The "break activities are a great idea, if you actually had time to go do them.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees and decrease nurse/patient ratio. When staff goes to you in tears saying they are overwhelmed and think it is unsafe-- you may want to listen.

    Pros

Faith based, management is sensitive to employees home life, management hold events and provides free food on occasion for employees.

    Cons

No differential between IT clinical employees for training and working hours, management does not plan well, shifting priorities, always putting out fires and no no time to be proactive, some people are buried in work, some have none and nothing happens.

    Advice to Management

Watch employees who do the work and those that don't and do something about the slackers.

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to get involved with committees, great support from above for people that show motivation and desire to move the profession forward, great energy towards improving the quality of care, incentives to further education available, great coworkers, great teamwork

    Cons

sometimes changes are made that are not evidence based, high turnover of managers, expectations of RNs not up to par with other hospitals-need more accountability, need better communication with bedside RNs about coming changes/they may be more receptive if they are included in the planning process

    Advice to Management

    see above

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Pay was good for position I held. Fellow colleagues were sufficient for the work at hand.

    Cons

Management mishaps have ruined what was once a great atmosphere to work in. Herding all IS employees into a cubicle hell does not make for a better work environment. Constant shuffling of my direct manager made for frustration as I felt I never had a manager I could trust. Relocating and re-titling me without my consent was the final straw.

    Advice to Management

Get better at managing your people and take them into consideration when making changes.

    Pros

There are plenty of good people working here. The culture is one of taking excellent care of the patients. The pros to this is you are encouraged to use EBP.

    Cons

The cons of working in a place that emphasizes patient satisfaction is that this is sometimes at odds with the other goal of taking excellent care of a patient. Do you want them happy or healthy? Because there is not enough staff to achieve both.

    Advice to Management

Examine your floors which have low retention/high turnover rates. Consider boosting staffing numbers and adjusting the grid. I think you will find this solves many of the retention problems.
