A great place to work if you are a lawyer, not so great in IT

I worked at Norton Rose full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, really nice office, reasonable pay.

The culture in every part of the practice except IT is fantastic. The partners in particular are superb and really care about the "Norton Rose Family".

    Cons

The management in IT, particularly middle management are shockingly bad. Really good technical IT staff are constantly undermined by a management team who are both incompetent and rude.

2012 has brought new lows of sucking, black hell to the denizens of the 3rd floor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop engaging in constant re-organisations. Treat technical staff with respect. Stop blaming technical staff for management failures.

a hire and fire attitude, expecting long hours and showing little loyality

I worked at Norton Rose full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay was above average for both fee earners and business service roles. The London office is in a nice location by the Thames with easy access to London Bridge station.

    Cons

The London office was an unhappy place, with very weak management showing a lack of leadership and in some cases running personal agendas. The globalization of the business has been less than successful in some areas according to some people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop running the company like a small SME, and put proper structures in place worthy of the 5th biggest legal company in the world.

  3.

Very little recognition for hard work, bad management and little diversity.

I worked at Norton Rose full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good brand, good clients, interesting markets and many global offices, offering an extensive international network.

    Cons

There is a culture of fee earners and 'everybody else'. It is hard to judge other teams but in the infrastructure, mining and commodities headlight there is huge churn of staff. The management is particularly bad within this team, the zero-respect attitude amongst the partners in this team comes from the leader of this group. Threatening e-mails regards to checking your blackberry at all times (in respect to holidays) were sent, upsetting the team and enhancing the already low morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although many schemes in place to encourage diversity, this is not shown in practice. Management should take more time to understand the demands on the staff and encourage a work / life balance. Management should also encourage better behaviour to some of the Partners to keep staff happy.

I worked at Norton Rose full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Used to have a strong team and 'can do' environment.
Location and facilities in More London is very good.

    Cons

Lower wages when compared to competing firms,
Upstairs / downstairs mentality between some fee earning staff and support services,
    Intolerant and incompetent senior management,
Since 2010, I have never seen lower levels of morale in any workplace.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at the negligent management and inefficiencies in business services as the majority of the management reporting is based in fiction.

    Doesn't Recommend

    No opinion of CEO
