    Pros

    Prestigious and pays for education.

    Cons

Sometimes a little slow to respond to social issues that affect employees and excessively corporate even compared to many other Catholic universities

    Advice to Management

Focus on your mission, not on brand recognition and growing the endowment.

    Pros

Offered excellent funding package, with extra year of funding.

Top-notch research facility, with good research collection at hand in the library.

    Reasonably bright undergraduates to teach.

    Cons

Limited name-brand recognition compared to the Ivies (for example) -- the Notre Dame brand is mostly limited to the Midwest and Catholic circles, and carries much less weight at elite coastal institutions.

Notre Dame is a great place to be if you fit their ideal -- white, straight, affluent, Catholic, moderately conservative. They're terrible at dealing with anything else. Sexual harassment, racism, and homophobia are rampant here, and the administration fails to take it very seriously or respond appropriately. (If this is surprising to you, Google "Lizzy Seeberg.") While I was offered an excellent funding package to recruit me away from the Ivies, the message I've received here since arriving on campus is that people like me aren't wanted here.

    Advice to Management

Take issues of sexual harassment, racism, and homophobia seriously. Stop hosting events that merely perpetuate these issues (e.g. all those lectures about "traditional marriage.") Stop denying that these are issues, and make real efforts to fix them. Stop getting caught up with the federal government over birth control, and focus instead on the things that make Notre Dame a pretty good school.

    Pros

An awesome place to work overall. Friendly people who are always willing to help a fellow employee. An internship experience where you have the opportunity to contribute to crucial development projects.

Compensation was fair, and you get access to some great benefits around campus. Enjoy outings provide by different entities around the university. Access to recreational facilities makes staying in shape more convenient. Respect of work/life balance and a very family oriented culture.

Management will check in to see how you are enjoying your time and ask if they can help in any way. Very attentive to their team members and always willing to talk.

    Cons

It is almost impossible to come up with a con for this experience. Minimal experience working on a project as a team.

    Advice to Management

Consider hiring multiple interns for larger assignments and the opportunity to practice developing as a team. Continue to provide code reviews and paired programming opportunities.

    Pros

Great perks, great team, wonderful institution with plenty of opportunities to learn about Division I sports and how they operate compliance wise.

    Cons

The usual. Not all staff are willing to help you learn but those individuals were few and far in between. Some staff seemed to take advantage of the "intern position" and throw busy work on at the last minute when the boss wanted more pressing work done at the same time.

    Advice to Management

Keep lines of communication open with all parties so that when interns prioritize and do the more pressing matters first, it doesn't cause issues with others in the department.
