I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals

    Pros

Smart, dedicated, decent colleagues. Flexible workplace in Gen Meds. Progressive, global mindset.

    Cons

Experienced/senior team burdened with tasks/responsibilities that could be delegated. Not enough entry-level roles.

I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay is good and benefits are good.
Staff and corporate culture are ethical.

    Cons

Recent round of layoffs left me with out the resources to do my job properly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When doing layoffs, management should develop a continuity of operations plans BEFORE the layoffs so that you can be sure that work can continue at least at 80 to 90% of previous levels.

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Novartis has an excellent compensation package, is respectful of work/life balance and has very talented and dedicated people.

    Cons

I experienced it as still very much being a place that is run by the "good ole boy's network" at the top. It was very political and this greatly influenced your chances of advancement if you were not part of the "inner circle." As a woman of color, I thought I had finally landed in a top tier company, and a place where I would have an opportunity shine and grow. It is indeed that on paper, but my experience of Novartis was exactly the opposite! I ended up leaving without a job to go to, because I was so unhappy. This was very unfortunate and a loss on both sides!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Truly creating an inclusive culture, where diverse individuals (women and people of color) have an opportunity to develop and grow is still a major challenge for your organization, especially outside of the US. I highly recommend making a "real" commitment to creating an environment which promotes talent and innovation into practice and not just on paper. A good place to start is by putting some people in place that are not just from within in your HR, OD and D&I business, which is what I saw, but bringing in some people from the outside and management truly working with them to make Novartis the great company it can be. You woo people in with a great compensation package, and then let them flat down! It was the worst experience I have ever had in my adult working life!
