I have been working at Novartis as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

There is a really nice work environment here. Everybody is really nice, the space is full of natural light, the cafe serves good food. Having flex-time is really valuable, especially for people with long commutes or non-traditional schedules.

    Cons

Unfortunately, while they offer great benefits to their permanent employees, many of these don't extend to the contract workers. Also there has been a lot of reorganizing of departments lately that has resulted in really great long-time workers losing their jobs when the company probably could have fit them into the new structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Filter your company-wide e-mails by audience. It's a bit demoralizing to get an e-mail about how our great bonuses are being calculated, when you're not someone who gets a bonus. Also offer pay to workers who can't work during a site closure, such as the ones we had due to the snow days this winter.

I have been working at Novartis full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay, bonuses, benefits are nearly paid 90%

    Cons

Too hard to implement change, management not interested in getting better, too many people are in the wrong positions, not open to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people that implement the work and don't just make decisions in isolation. This has been addressed many times over the past 3 years but still nothing changes.

I have been working at Novartis full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Many intelligent and nice people to work with. An interesting pipeline with regular launches. Opportunity to be creative, even if it's not always supported by budget or resource.

    Cons

Managers with more interest in their career progression than their people. Short term focus to get to the next role. People burnt out with limited career progression. Going backwards, not forwards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take better care of your people. Take time to understand what they are doing before changing things just to leave your "stamp" before moving onto the next role. Trust their expertise. Be courageous enough to listen to their concerns.

    Lots of unnecessary procedures
    Small budget, yet high expectations
    Confused definition of "empowerment"

I have been working at Novartis full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Novartis offers flexible working scheme which make it easier to balance work and life.

    Cons

It offers few opportunity to rotate in different function because of relatively higher functional barrier.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Novartis is a great company, and I admire its strategy. I suggest that company to accelerate the young talent development and provide more rotation to cultivate their business acumen instead of training them to be a specialist.

I have been working at Novartis

    Pros

flexible depending in team for WFH.

    Cons

office culture is terrible. 15 hour days are normal but typically 18 hour days plus weekend. Sr. leadership in global oncology runs a top down approach and doesn't want anyone to have input, think or be proactive. any monkey can do the job basically. they don't value employees education, experience - no value added.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up, it shouldn't be a dictatorship.
