I have been working at Novell full-time for more than a year
Pros – There were really no pros
Cons – Dying company with lack of cohesive vision and leadership. Continually look for ways to cheat sales people out of commission.
Advice to Senior Management – Stick to a strategy and do not jerk the people around. Pay sales people what they are worth so that you do not have the massive amounts of turnover that have been prevalent in the 2000's. Invest in a lead/demand generation staff and platform to drive inbound traffic for products and services
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Novell full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Health Benifits
Workload is manageable
Environment
Cons – Pay could be better
Some Field Reps try to take advantage of the Inside Reps.
Having to argue with compensation team to get payed on an account you worked on.
Having to use SAP(very time consuming)
Some Field Reps don't make an effort to visit customers weekly
Advice to Senior Management – more clarification on duties between Inside and Outside Rep. Make sure Field Rep are aware that they are not managers over the inside team.

I worked at Novell
Pros – Great environment at work and in the communiity
Cons – Lack of clear focus from management. During 2010 the company was plagued with uncertainty as it was going through a sale. (from public to private)

I have been working at Novell
Pros – I love working with the people at Novell, particularly members of my own team. The new leadership gets that focusing on existing customers can be a great business and can also bridge the gap from old products to new.
Cons – As with all companies, there's more to do than can be done and lots of inefficiencies.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep it simple. Invest in the future.

I have been working at Novell
Pros – The salary and benefits are competitive for the local IT industry. Novell has a great culture and facilities (on-site fitness center, cafeteria, credit union, etc.) in Provo and offers a flexible work environment. The best part of working at Novell are the awesome people you get to work with every day and the many challenges and opportunities to help solve.
Cons – Novell was recently acquired by the Attachmate Group and this has naturally caused a sense of uncertainty among the ranks. The leadership and business culture brought into the fold by heritage Attachmate and NetIQ is less polished even though their focus on the customer and driving revenue is sound. Many, including myself, wonder if they are poised to grow the business or merely desire to "milk the cash cow" (existing customer base and maintenance revenue stream).
Advice to Senior Management – You have a great employee, partner and customer base at Novell. In order to keep the business in balance, you need to give adequate time, attention and priority to each.

I have been working at Novell
Pros – You get great benefits and there are some great people to work with.
Cons – It's like pulling teeth to get a promotion or advance.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees and then you can know what they really want.

I worked at Novell
Pros – Nice campus
Nice cafeteria
Nice exercise room
lots of time off, didn't need to beg for permission
good location next to free way
excellent benefits
Cons – Company was bought out by Attachmate, Attachmate laid off hundreds of employees
company can't compete and therefore is not growing
moral is way down
Dead end job no way to move up
No raises in 4 years
If managers don't like you, even if you do a good job, they will lower your bonus at the end of the year.
very political. some people got promotions playing to manager's egos while undermining their coworkers performance.
When things got tough, managers would only look out for themselves and threw the people on their team under the bus.
Advice to Senior Management – Attachmate should get rid the rest of the managers and then sell off the rest of Novell. The company isn't worth keeping around since Novell can't compete.
