    Pros

Some of the people are really great, talented and dedicated. The new CEO Kathleen Owens is impressive and hopefully will make the changes that are desperately needed.

    Cons

Where to start? The main problem I see is that management don't offer a clear direction for staff to buy into and believe in.

There is a lot of politics and little straight talking...processes are incredibly cumbersome and old fashioned and were designed with the mentality of a much larger company.

Another big problem is the constant restructuring by Attachmate without the change management effort to back it up, meaning saved resource on paper, but a lot of opportunity cost as teams struggle to understand and function in the new structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a long term vision the staff can get behind and back it up with some detail, so that each team/person can see how their role fits into the bigger picture.

Before restructuring put a much more detailed and thought-out plan in place as to how the company should function after the change and make sure to communicate this quickly and clearly.

    Pros

    Good Salary

Good work if given (may not be given and made to sit empty if not from the same region eventually leading to poor performance)

Upper management is classy and carries conviction

    Good location

    Cons

Middle management is rotten scheduling work based on regional favouritism rather than merit. This happened to me and almost all teams around me . (No wonder the company got sold out ...)

Work and performance is given based on regionalism/favouritism(you have to be lucky to be a favourite without sharing the native with managers. )

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle Management - Try to be a leader with some conviction rather than be an aspiring politician and acting spinelessly.

Upper Management - Select your middle management carefully having a sense of judgement. Mere chair warming experience with passion for doggie duties should not be the criteria to be a part of the middle management.

HR - Not sure if this matters also. Try to take attritions rate seriously they may speak more about the way the company is performing rather than just being a number on some stupid graph. (Again.. no wonder the company got sold out...)

    Pros

    There were really no pros

    Cons

Dying company with lack of cohesive vision and leadership. Continually look for ways to cheat sales people out of commission.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to a strategy and do not jerk the people around. Pay sales people what they are worth so that you do not have the massive amounts of turnover that have been prevalent in the 2000's. Invest in a lead/demand generation staff and platform to drive inbound traffic for products and services

    Pros

    Nice campus
    Nice cafeteria
    Nice exercise room
lots of time off, didn't need to beg for permission
good location next to free way
    excellent benefits

    Cons

Company was bought out by Attachmate, Attachmate laid off hundreds of employees
company can't compete and therefore is not growing
    moral is way down
Dead end job no way to move up
    No raises in 4 years
If managers don't like you, even if you do a good job, they will lower your bonus at the end of the year.
very political. some people got promotions playing to manager's egos while undermining their coworkers performance.
When things got tough, managers would only look out for themselves and threw the people on their team under the bus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Attachmate should get rid the rest of the managers and then sell off the rest of Novell. The company isn't worth keeping around since Novell can't compete.
