  1.

Great place to learn and definitely a team environment.

    Pros

Large company however has less of a corporate feel.
Great benefits and salary comparable to other CROs.
Department team was great to work with.
    Down-to-earth company to work for.

    Cons

Difficult to take vacation time due to deadlines and work load.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership seems to value the employee and future growth of the company.

    Pros

Nice people, but weak management at all levels. Many of the managers have been there since they were tiny and haven't grown or developed in response to becoming a much larger and more global CRO

    Cons

Politics, short-term perspective, cost cutting such that systems and infrastructure are dated and always at the brink of failure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find more competent managers; treat people with respect and not only as a commodity

    Pros

Most people are nice. More flexibilty than many places regarding WFH options.

    Cons

Some rotten apples; agreed upon by many, yet management does not have the wherewithal to cut them out. Lack of leadership and training--new people come in and it's a sink-or-swim kind of thing. NIckle and diming intelligent professionals about every billable moment--doesn't inspire to give more than 100%.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in training your people. They'll do a better job and feel better about the company. Stop with the intense emphasis on every breath being billable.

    Pros

Lovely people, relaxed atmosphere that is balanced with ambition and the drive to succeed.

    Cons

Small company that may lack in training depending on your department. The overall training department is wonderful, but for specific positions much is left to independent learning.

    Pros

Good benefits and loved being able to wear jeans every day!

    Cons

As many have stated it's small trying to run like a huge CRO. Plus it's high school. If you have any kind of personality clash with your manager ...forget it! You might as well start looking for a new job. Lot of the same feels regarding who you know and not based on merrit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of dead weight. Managers who have been there too long and also act unprofessional. People shouldn't be afraid to speak their mind and not be worried about any retaliation. You can only speak your mind or offer suggestions if you someone's best buddy or good friends with manager. Things don't change because people there don't want to be held accountable.

    Pros

Richard Staub, CEO, is a true leader. He has a kind, sweet demeanor and never meets a stranger. He genuinely cares about the company and it's employees. Flexibility is awesome! Benefits are decent. Pay is slightly below industry standard. CRA's aren't treated like workhorses (as often seen in the industry) - the company actually goes to great lengths to offer reasonable travel (50%) for CRAs (which is significantly less than the industry standard of 80% travel).

    Cons

Unfortunately, this is also a "who-you-know" environment. Entry into the clinical space can be difficult and nearly impossible if you're not the son or daughter, old friend, neighbor's child, etc. - of a Novella decision-maker.
Recent acquisition by Quintiles: the "plug" is that nothing changes, but this can not be true as there is too much redundancy. Novella will likely lose use it's small company charm and warm company culture.
HR is NOT respected by anyone in the organization - the team is pretty inept and should've been replaced long ago.
There is a weird staffing division within the company called NCR (Novella Clinical Resourcing). It provides staffing support to Novella AND it's very own competitors. Quite an odd business model.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lose the inviting, friendly company culture

    Pros

Flexibility, promotions within, believe in work life balance, access to senior management, great people work here who are always willing to teach

    Cons

Compensation is lower than industry standards, processes are scarce and are seldom used consistently across the board, not easy to get metrics for a client without using a ton of trackers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take so long to get rid of dead weight

    Pros

The people working for this company are wonderful to work with and I found personnel in all departments willing to help across all departments in order to meet client deliverables.

    Cons

This company is growing at a very rapid pace and at times I don't believe that the infrastructure in some departments is able to handle the rapid growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have meetings with your staff on a regular basis and gather feedback on ways to improve inefficiencies.
