Pros
Friendly team and okay mid-level management
Cons
senior management very rarely does any continuous training for the frontline sales people. Depending on who your manager you could be in it for a bumpy ride. Mergers and acquisitions always going on.
Advice to Senior Management
Take charge and invest in your people's personal growth not a 2 day NSM.
Pros
The employees were some of the friendliest I worked with, and most management was very good at disseminating information and driving towards success.
Cons
The very senior management would consistently say one thing, and then do another. Personal objectives, pride and ego led to many decisions, instead of doing what was best for the company and workers. Senior Sales management acted like a caricature of all the bad sales movies you see, and you often wonder "Is this guy for real?"
Advice to Senior Management
Breakup the senior sales leadership, and bring in guys that are correctly trained to lead, not hot-heads that consistently put fear into the equation.
Pros
Great technology stack to work with
Willingness to explore open source options
Flex time available
Coworkers are friendly and helpful
Competitive pay and benefits
Not nearly as much bureaucracy as other larger companies I've worked for
No off-shoring of development that I'm aware of
Cons
Priorities shift constantly, making it difficult to actually complete a project.
Inter-departmental communication is not were it should be
Not sure how the Windstream merger will change the culture.
Advice to Senior Management
More consistent focus and buy-in from upper management on a single project would greatly improve everyone's ability to get things done.
Pros
easy product to understand. Nice folks and the people who have been there a long time are trying to do the right thing
Cons
unrealisitc goals the industry itself has become a price only driven industry
Advice to Senior Management
pick a direction any direction and communicate it clearly and honestly with your sales people. WE are pretty simple we will do what makes sense. choose a sales automation tool and stick with it!
Pros
Great work flexibility, great products backed by great customer support.
Cons
Limited career growth potential unless you work at HQ.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote from within.
Pros
Flexibility. No real accountability factor which made it difficult for a call center environment. We did however have lots of potlucks!
Cons
No one ever can make any money becuase of the poor customer service. Ofter time customer were disconnected becuase they missed there bill by one payment!
Advice to Senior Management
The managers are very unprofessional there. There are alot of internal conflict and its hard to convince yourself that this is the right environment for you.
Pros
Able to reach out to senior management if necessary. Good product selection to sell from.
Cons
Managers tend to micro-manage to the extent of being counter-productive. Manager are under extreme stress to make their numbers that it becomes a trickle down effect. There should be more positive, uplifiting ways to motivate rather then tearing down. A Salaried position means long hours but if you need to take a few hours off you are still expected to use PTO. 60 hour weeks with none of the benefits of being salaried.
Advice to Senior Management
Working on a salary means some days you work more then others. If someone needs to go to the doctor give them the time if they are working 60 hour weeks instead of using PTO. Train the DSD's to be motivating in a positive way rather then a way that cuts people down. No one is motivated to perform when their manager tears them apart.
Pros
The company is financially strong and they have continued to grow. They work well as a team meaning that the engineers, managers, and account executives work together in answering prospects questions and/or concerns in order to gain their business and trust. Other departments are quick to assist if they can. Almost every business is a prospect. The benefit package is good (health insurance, vision care, dental care, 401K, life insurance, vacation time, etc). The office atmosphere is very positive.
Cons
From an Account Executive's perspective, there are too many representatives in one area. There are no territories assigned. You will prospect for new business only and once you have sold to the customer you will not recieve residuals on that customer (one time payout). It takes to long to receive compensation for the business you have closed (typically 3 months after the order has been entered). Account Executives, Account Managers, and Channel Managers may call on the same prospect (you compete against each other for business). The order process is confusing and time consuming.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow the local managers to do their jobs. Too much micro managing. Allow Account Executives, that are not from the industry, more time to produce.
Pros
Given plenty of resources and leeway to get my job done, with complete support from senior leadership. The job is challenging, but I can look towards leaders for advice and support. The mix of products and services is continuing to grow, making NuVox stand apart from the competition. Change seems to happen quickly if it makes sense, and is not bogged down by bureaucracy.
Cons
Outside offices can seem a bit disjointed with Corporate, but it's not a major issue. I wish there was a stronger benefits package, particularly in medical coverage and 401(k). Vacation and holidays are strong.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep looking forward with changes, and keep looking for ways to expand the footprint. The less regional we are, the stronger our possibilities.
Pros
It's better than being unemployed. Probably.
Cons
The company's sole focus is on making a buck. Forget bettering their employees or actually looking out for the interests of paying customers, it's all about how to suck a few more pennies out of people's pockets.
Advice to Senior Management
Pull your heads out of your hindquarters, listen to your employees and customers, and make the extra effort to be a remarkable company. To stand out from your competition, don't go about it by trying to cut as many corners as possible - do it by showing an ounce of morality and decency. Your customers and your employees will thank you.
