Pros
great money, vacation and benefits.
Cons
no recognition for good work, and management is disrespectful.
Advice to Senior Management
show more respect to team members.
Pros
The only auto plant on the West Coast. Developed by Toyota, self-sufficient system, you learn what a true lean manufacturing environment is like. Large business.
Cons
Uncompetitive pay at entry level, little room for promotion due to large number of employees, repetitive work days.
Advice to Senior Management
Many engineers had a lack of motivation from the start of their careers there. Although this is a personal matter, I would have liked to see management provide better mentoring, which would lead to stronger motivation and thus a stronger company.
Pros
NUMMI offered many opportunities to advance within the company. As a maintenance team member I was offered a plentitude of training within the company as well as the opportunity to pusue a formal education. The joint venture was a success because it empowered its workforce. My kaizen suggestions were mutually beneficial, the company saved money and I was awarded some.
Cons
The only dissapointment I had was the lack of leadership in my union representatives. Because the thier inability to adjust to the changing financial climate, the UAW put 5000 people on the stree. Hope Tesla doesn't make the same mistake by letting them in!
Advice to Senior Management
NUMMI was a successful experiment!
Pros
great work environment and good learning experience
Cons
no long term future due to economy
Advice to Senior Management
get a new partner
Pros
Benefits are among the best
Cons
unrealistic goals placed on team members.
Advice to Senior Management
Get back to basics
Pros
large company allows more room to move around for advancement if one chooses to. Can easily get promoted to Group Leader.
Cons
Company shutdown production on 4/1/2010.
Advice to Senior Management
To upper management, you should support your group leaders as much as possible. They are your link between management and hourly TMs.
Pros
I enjoyed the camaraderie at NUMMI. When I worked there, I felt I was truly a memebr of a team. It was easy to communicate with others and enlist their help on projects. And when I left, I was treated to a lunch attended by senior management. It was a small gesture, but it meant a lot to me.
Cons
I don't feel management was the most capable. It seemed like some people had elevated titles for no reason and did not have the skills necessary for their level of responsibility.
Advice to Senior Management
I would look more closely at those who are in management roles to make sure they are capable of their titles. I's also look at work hours. My work/life balance was fine, but I've heard from others that theirs is out of balance.
Pros
Team work, Job satisfaction, career opportunities
Cons
Work home balance low, extremelly demanding
Advice to Senior Management
Learn all you can
Pros
Great place to work and advance.
Cons
Closing very soon within the next two weeks
Advice to Senior Management

Cons
