    Pros

The college is blessed with staff who are truly invested in each other and in giving students a well rounded Christian education. There is a real sense of community among co-workers and students alike.

    Cons

Unfortunately a series of bad decisions and knee-jerk reactions on the part of the executive leadership have compromised the college's position, sending them into a panic which has negatively impacted their ability to reach prospective students and hampered the efforts of staff who are ready and willing, but often unable to serve students the way they should be served. The current work environment is unstable which has prompted a lot of good people to jump ship and many more to work "looking over their shoulder."

    Advice to Management

Get back to basics. Remember that your people are the key to your survival and treat them as such.

  7. Peaceful Environment, But Misguided For A Christian Organization

I worked at Nyack College (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The students are wonderful. Work is very fulfilling.

    Cons

Leadership seems to have forgotten the school's founding purpose of educating students, and are more focused on making money. All organizations need to focus on their financial condition, but not at the expense of damage to the core product.

    Advice to Management

Improve financial condition by increasing retention rates, which means providing needed support services. Increase enrollment and improve brand image by providing education that adequately prepares graduates.

I worked at Nyack College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at Nyack College was a blast. The coworkers are like family, they genuinely care about one another. It is truly a Christian environment if there ever was one. Good work-life balance.

    Cons

Nyack College is moving into a direction of trying to become "bigger and better" as a result, making very reactive decisions that are not wise. It feels like the leadership [executive and trustees] who are calling the shots are clueless on what is happening on the ground.

    Advice to Management

I would encourage the management and leadership to spend some more time developing systems, training staff than just trying to "save face" to the trustees. You're winning the battle and losing the war.
