    Positive Outlook

I worked at O'Connor Davies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

O'Connor Davies is a place where you can gain extensive knowledge all facets of business whether it be in a commercial, non for profit or government environment. Great co-workers.

    Cons

The hours can be long and tiring added to dealing with some, but fortunately very few uncooperative clients. Not a perfect match for a member of a young family with small children.

    Advice to Management

Communication! Communication! Communication! This was not one of the Company's strong suites. It was not done on purpose but it did cause some confusion.

I worked at O'Connor Davies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

decent experience, staff at supervisor level and below are helpful, dont bother asking someone in a higher position, open door policy seems to be working very efficently

    Cons

Travel is excessive and too cheap to rent hotels, no recognition for achievements, no ability to transfer and no upward mobility

    Advice to Management

Apply your own HR policies and operating procedures to ALL offices, not just the large ones.

I have been working at O'Connor Davies full-time

    Pros

Nice people. People in general are friendly and willing to help out when help is needed.

    Cons

Too much office politics at the management level. Tax department is look down upon. Promotions in the tax department come once in a blue moon. Tax engagements budgets are set up or give away as a complimentary freebie by auditor partners/managers. Budgets are so unrealistic that most people just eat their time to avoid the "phone calls" from the partners in charge. The pay is below industry and bonus is meh (don't count on it). Annual chargeable goal is 1800 hours, industry standard. The weekly mandatory chargeable hour during tax season is usually around 45-55 hrs. You will probably have to work 80 minimum to meet the 55 chargeable hrs if you factor in the time that you will have to eat, snowstorms, server downtime and misc nonchargeable time.

    Advice to Management

Audit partners and managers have to stop trying to run the tax department.

I have been working at O'Connor Davies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people make a difference. I work for a variety of partners and managers and they all have given me the opportunity to advance my career. The Partners have an "Open Door Policy," if you have any questions or concerns. The Firm's culture believes in a work/life balance and always looks to build staff morale. Hard work is always recognized.

    Cons

Based on where I live and some of the firm's clients, there is traveling involved. Sometimes the commute can be challenging. Some engagement fees are low and it is difficult to complete the job within budget.

benefits are not good, no overtime, work all year like it is busy season, no maternity leave

    Advice to Management

    Pros

It isn't a boring internship in which you sit behind a desk and staple, or hole punch, or other boring work. They send you out into the field and do hands on auditing work

    Cons

Some of the clients they send you too are far, so travel time can get pretty long. They compensate you for gas, but it still gets annoying
