I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. The opportunities are there for people who have the aptitude to run their own store. I have made a lot of friends, both customers and coworkers. There is always something different, and the work never gets boring. Helping customers solve their problems is a very rewarding job. The majority of our customers are easy to deal with as long as you treat them with respect.

    Cons

Moving beyond store manager is tough. Long hours and lots of pressure to meet sales goals. Loss prevention auditors can pop in any day. Audits are inconsistent, and your score depends on who you have for your auditor. Your end of year bonus is mostly affected by your audit score. At least they only come in once a year. Finding good people is the hardest part of a store manager's job. Employee theft can be a real problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let store managers use their vacation time.

I worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

learned a lot, also great with college schedule

    Cons

district managers are dumb, pay increases were weak,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start recognizing when you have good talent working for you. I worked for you for 7 years and obtained bachelors and masters degrees in business while working nearly full time... you never attempted to keep me there... that is a major flaw on your upper managements part to keep good people in your company.

I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I started as a driver specialist knowing very little about cars. With the help of fellow team members and online training I have worked my way up to Assistant Manager in less than 2 years.

    Cons

Sometimes depending on staffing the scedule can get a little hectic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In my own words the managment is pretty good. At least in my district/region. Keep up the work.

I worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Was able to transfer between 3 stores while in college

    Cons

Didn't like the fact you make more money through commission because students don't work as many hours.

I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Opportunity to grow if you put forth the effort, nothing is handed to you. Commission plus salary.

    Cons

The hourly employees are a mixed bag. Some part timers are gold, some of the full timers are self centered and display a massive sense of entitlement. The company provides GREAT training, you just have to put forth the effort to learn. There IS growth opportunity. Just takes time to get moved up and get everything needed to move up. Slow competitor acquisition and upgrade the I.T. still using DOS.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a lot of busywork in the company, which is very important, but if you're in a high volume store it's impossible to get done. As a store manager, work diligently at moving a hard worker up the ladder. Delegate effectively.

    Pros

Good atmosphere in work place with employers. Good pay. Good hours.

    Cons

Patrons are sick. They degrade women and managers won't do anything about it unless they physically touch you.

I worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you only need short term, part time work with no benifits it's still a good place to work. The store managers do their best to make the schedule fit everyone's needs.

    Cons

While employees are still called "team members" that's no longer the feeling in the stores. Turnover has become so high it seems there's a whole new crew every few months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to the way Charlie O'Reilly ran the company where everyone felt like family. If you think it's still that way at the store level you have truly lost touch. Having people like me who have been with the company for many years leave should tell you something.

I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast-paced work environment. Interesting work, not a boring as other retail. A lot of opportunity to move upward.

    Cons

Unfortunately, entry level and lower level manager pay is not very substantial, but pretty much equal to the retail industry average.
