Current Employee - CLINIC BILLING MANAGER in Portland, OR

I have been working at OCHIN full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The management has changed over the years and it has improved. OCHIN provides flexible work schedules, the pay is not the highest, but they make up with the great benefits.

    Cons

Supervisors tent to micromanage the staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Change supervisors.

Good for a Health Informatics Programmer, not for Software Engineers

Former Employee - Programmer/Developer in Portland, OR
Former Employee - Programmer/Developer in Portland, OR

I worked at OCHIN full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great coffee, also great if you like the startup feel (~200 employees), very open air cubicles.

    Cons

I entered this job expecting it to be a software engineer position based on the fact that it was called a Programmer/Developer position, but it ended up being more Health Informatics (CQMs, SQL Scripting, Caradigm Intelligence Platform, Mirth, Epic Systems, HL7, etc...) rather than the programming mentioned in the job listing (Java, C#, etc...)

Make sure you know what you are getting into before you go, or you will find yourself bored, confused, and without training, as the training here is for those who already have a background in medical coding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would have been nice if the Scrum Master was not the Department Manager, as it created a very awkward environment.

I have been working at OCHIN

    Pros

Excellent working environment, on-site gym, great learning experience, great location

    Cons

*You will still wonder what the CEO & company actually do after 1-2 years on the job.

*Ex-interns have voiced concerns & has led me to believe that upon hire there is a negligible pay increase for interns. **Helpful tip to interns would be to negotiate a salary based on what you'd expect as full-time since you will not experience a meaningful raise upon conversion.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at OCHIN

    Pros

A "learning company" provides lots of learning ops. Great office layout with great stumptown coffee.

    Cons

It is a non-profit, so do not expect to "get paid." However, there is opertunity to prove yourself and make a decent wage.
