    I worked at ODL

    Pros

family-like culture and scary smart CEO, lots of attention paid to employees with regular events, gifts and perks, lots of long-term employees with loyalty, very talented new product development team assembled from West Michigan's best (Donnelly, JCI, Herman Miller)

    Cons

now partially owned by JeldWen, so job security is not what it used to be (although you can find this problem anywhere) - small town values and people (can be good and bad) - HR VP that is a bit controlling and manipulative - deadlines sometimes unrealistic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

diversify even further -> outside of building industry

    I worked at ODL

    Pros

Benefits package, and nice people to work with at your level. Good facilities, and a nice area of Michigan to work in.

    Cons

Out of touch management people, controlling HR VP, salary structure favors management. Nepotism in management. Unqualified middle managers. Dealing with customer issues, and having to force feed the ODL way to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication with "normal" people. In every meeting I was in the theme was that senior management never wanted to hear the bad news. There are a lot of people that really knew what was going on, but were afraid to speak up for fear of being fired, or put on a "list". Trying to push through programs to our customers that they did not need or want. The company got so big that they lost the human touch with regard to customer service. It was ODL's way or the highway with regard to customers.
