    Advice to Management

    Pros

There are some really great people that work at OMNOVA, especially at the plant level. I always had a great experience at any of the plants I visited.

    Cons

Old school fat cat mentality in corporate management. If you were promoted to manager or director, they would waste untold amounts of money moving walls, and infrastructure to ensure your office was larger than someone who had a lesser title. If you work in IT there is no work/life balance. You are expected to be available at a beckoning call. IT management all the way up the chain is very petty and self preserving, to the detriment of their direct reports.

    Advice to Management

Do right by your direct reports and stop breeding a culture of sadism.

    Pros

    The pro is frequent cake.

    Cons

Strange, arrogant coworkers. Cold environment and very weird culture. Nobody has fun or is especially nice. Open concept workplace is terrible, no privacy. Hire for roles they don't need.

    Advice to Management

None, seems too far gone to change now.

    Pros

Strong middle management / director level / plant management. Dedicated, hard working employees.

    Cons

New HR destroyed culture quickly: HR leadership lack business savvy, are untrustworthy and incompetent. It can be argued that HR has created a hostile work environment in recent months. Lack of accountability: The CEO does not hold the executive level accountable including himself. The company has survived only due to the efforts of the director level and lower. These employees receive no leadership from the executive level. Retirements of president, Jim Hohman, and CFO, Mike Hicks, eliminated any accountability or leadership at the executive level. No work life balance: The employees work 60 plus hour weeks and continue to be squeezed to do more with less resources. It is never ending.

    Advice to Management

Accountability needs to start from the type down. Try to reestablish the strong leadership and culture of accountability. Reevaluate leadership at executive level. The company was willing to risk an increase in turnover to move to Beechwood but a significant number of the 25% of employees that have left are your higher performers you should be trying to retain.

    Pros

There were some very good people who had worked their for many years.

    Cons

The Columbus Mississippi plant was in the past one of the most profitable plants that Omnova had. But rather that applying sound business decisions, it chose to close the plant that could have handled all the business of 4 others and keep the others limping along until they can get around to closing them as well. Bottom line was that the company want to get rid of the Columbus plant and done so for just that sake. It had nothing to do with business decisions at all. As we were told, "We did not understand big business". They were right, we do not understand big businees when it is doing stupid things.

    Advice to Management

You cannot shrink your self to profitablility. You have to learn to manage the business not butcher it.
