Pros
Stable and friendly working environment
Cons
No career advancement opportunities and salary increment can't catch up with inflation
Advice to Senior Management
Be fair.
Pros
Excellent benefits, fun activities great co-workers.
Cons
Poor training, you must sign off on the various procedures and read about how to perform them. Should you make an error you will get ripped by upper management. Tight click in upper management and if you are not part of it you are snubbed ! Unless HR is in the office then you are their best friend.
Advice to Senior Management
Hand on traning, stop being so negative toward the "lower" employees.
Pros
Various peer recognition awards rewarded
Cons
No process and not well organized
Advice to Senior Management
Spend time on how to motivate employees
Pros
1. Top notch IT system, almost everything is computerized
2. role model in IT system
3. jobs are pretty easy and laid back (for those who look forward to low pressure)
4. people are helpful and nice
5. very suitable place for people not looking for career and challenge
Cons
1. No chance to grow, dont expect a career at all when you are not positioned at head office
2. Salary way below industry standart and way below most industry in the nation
3. Benefit is considered one of the worst in the country
4. subjective review from boss
5. Repetitive job and staff is not expected to bring new ideas at all
Advice to Senior Management
you expect to hire top tier graduates / overseas graduates, however you can only offer salary even lower than admin staff in general.
Pros
OOCL provides great benefits. They are one of the fewest companies that offer pension plan. The 401k is quite satisfying.
Cons
The culture is very different compare to other companies. Since it's headquartered in Hong Kong, their culture and management style is very rigid.
Advice to Senior Management
Most of the managers are workaholics. The department where I work needs to update their documents every time there are changes. I think that is what's importatnt.
Pros
Benefits are very good. Medical and dental. They have 401K plus pension plan
Cons
Management practice is very harsh toward the employees. Can not handle lower level employees questioning or making suggestions that may be different from the manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees how you would like to be treated. Need to be more open minded to suggestions from non-management employees. Treat your employees with respect.
Pros
- Multicultural group of employees
- Strong annual bonus is available when company is thriving
- Frequent, formalized feedback is mandatory for managers to provide to their subordinates
Cons
- Very poor senior management (reclusive, uncommunicative and capricious)
- Little recognition at the highest levels of the company of the value that IT provides
- Favoritism abounds
- Top-down management style is oppressive and dismissive
- 'Who you know' is more important than 'What you know'
- Salary increases do not keep up with inflation nor industry averages
- Company is downsizing its U.S. workforce
Advice to Senior Management
San Jose's SNT-center management and their immediate superiors are ill-equipped to handle their roles. These management levels: a) cater to favorite, non-performing employees, b) impose communication and rigid role restrictions and c) do not provide leadership in any meaningful fashion. It is highly apparent that several layers of management need to be replaced in order to effectively handle the ongoing problems.
