Former Employee – worked at OPNET full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Awesome leadership with "can do" attitude at every turn.
Yearly preparation for OPNETWORK provides enormous benefit to all employees collaborating cross-team to deliver a magnificent, world-class event every year.
Focused on results rather than the process.
Cons – The only downside is if you're not committed to excellence, then this is not the place to work.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to provide opportunities and challenges to employees expecting nothing but perfection.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at OPNET full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Focused, visionary leadership.
Well-chosen new technology acquisitions.
Smart, motivated team, top to bottom; good camaraderie.
Engineering- and technology-friendly company and management.
Cons – Bottlenecks because of micromanagement. Loose product definition discipline.
Recruiting/hiring structure seemed to be aimed at fitting a specific mold. I might not have been hired if my team hadn't been brought aboard en masse.
As with many SW development houses, the drive for new functionality leaves numerous old issues and enhancement requests from customers in limbo.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at OPNET full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Low stress except for maybe one or two weeks out of the year. Flexible hours. Compensation is fair. Office location is excellent, near several restaurants and close to metro. Relatively flat management hierarchy (although this may not stay the case after the acquisition). Employee retention is good.
Cons – Not many additional benefits or perks. When the CEO/CTO tell you to do something, there's not much room for argument.

Former Employee – worked at OPNET full-time for more than a year
Pros – The company is young, fresh, fast and growing. Everyone I worked with at OPNET was smart fun and on top of their game. The company will allow you to drink from the proverbial fire hose until you can no longer take it any more. They were good about allowing you to carve your own path through the company once you proved your worth. Engineering skills are a hurdle rate at OPNET.
Cons – The company had/has a bit of founders syndrome. They just got bought by Riverbed so things may change...

Former Employee – worked at OPNET full-time for less than a year
Pros – -Benefits are okay and helpful
-Products are good and have potential to be better
-Yearly conference is a great networking event
-Commute is very convenient
-Learning program helps to educate
Cons – -too much micro managing
-unprepared managers
-rude and intimidating team leads
-too much team assumptions
-no room for growth
-low pay in comparison to the market
-employees have to figure things out on their own, which wastes time
-team mates not very helpful
Advice to Senior Management – Trust your employees, give them some leeway and let them grow. Make sure that the people you place in management are well prepared and do their job well. Need to get rid of micro management. People get intimidated and stressed out. Please upgrade to the newest and latest technology, no one uses C and C++ anymore.

Current Employee – been working at OPNET full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Interesting and challenging projects are going on all the time. The opportunity to work on these projects is inspiring at times. Learning from a few of the employees and managers is always a bonus. There is a real sense of camaraderie among groups of employees which makes it a great place to work.
Cons – Upper Management has such a skewed sense of self entitlement that they have lost their manners when speaking to employees. Often times SVP's and below are spoken to with such condescending tones, it's embarrassing to be in the meeting. The company is so overly micro managed it ends up bottle necking projects and costing the company more money due to delayed decisions.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop Micro Managing. NEWS FLASH! Loyalty is a two way street...so many employees are loyal to the Upper Management of OPNET....it would be nice if it were felt from the top down.
