    Pros

    Challenging and dynamic work environment/

    Cons

As a contractor/fellow flexibility for time off is hard to obtain.

  2.

    Pros

24 annual sick/paid days off, but your local mentor may be even more considerate of time off requests. Managing is done at the local level, and ORISE people don't get too involved. Stipend amounts are arranged by the department that you do research with, not ORISE.

    Cons

Some of their support contacts are not helpful when you need them to be, sometimes things won't happen for a month or longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve all levels of communication between HQS and the researcher. It's not polite to ignore/avoid contact.

    Pros

I was able to be paid well to work at a federal agency, doing research, without having to go through the federal hire process.

    Cons

ORISE allows you to get your foot in the door of a federal agency, but even still, being directly hired by that agency may not be likely.

    Pros

Flexible work time, Nice entry level salary

    Cons

There are no health and other benefits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At least paid sick leave, vacation should be considered for every ORISE Participant. For Contractor type participants, they should consider health & other benefits when considered as established scientists.

Good place for entry level jobs

Current Employee - Post Doctoral Fellow  in  Morgantown, WV
Current Employee - Post Doctoral Fellow in Morgantown, WV

    Pros

They provide a Nice entry level salary. They also have a Good health insurance plan that has very little copay and pays for almost all expenses.especially student who are planning to start a family would love this insurance. further they also have Friendly administrative staff who bend over backwards to make sure they take care of you.
Nice moving package is provided. They support conference travel

    Cons

This is not suitable for international students on visa who did their higher education in USA as they convert you into a j1 visa and also do not conduct the verify for opt extension.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please consider performing a everify process if you are serious about getting international students. Because of your visa policies the international students are placed in a limbo when they complete their contracts with orise.

    Pros

ORISE fellowships are a good way to gain experience and credibility in your career.

    Cons

ORISE contracts are cheap for the employer since they do not come with any benefits. Though they may tout the fellowship as a "foot in the door" to a government agency, it seems that most ORISE fellows transition away from their company without ever being offered a real contract or GS position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fellows work just as hard as other contractors and should be valued (with benefits) in the same way.
