I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

As a CSE we solve problems for customers, making the work very manageable and fun in a challenging/problem solving way. The company atmosphere is a good mix of hard working and professional with relaxed and casual. Good work-life balance.

This place has exceeded my expectations because there are way more opportunities than I initially realized. There are offices all over the world (albeit not huge ones), and there is the opportunity to do and exchange with another office (e.g. spend a month working in Frankfurt, Germany).

Also, effective July 2014, OSIsoft now offers 401k matching of up to $3,000, which is a new development.

The company is also growing rapidly. It has gone from 1,100 to 1,300 employees in just one year and has had sales over $350 million. The office headquarters were just renovated and a new building is about to be constructed just south of the main one (to be completed by 2017) which will create an OSIsoft campus.

Commuting is also very easy. It's right next to a BART station, and if you live in SF, the drive is not bad because it's a reverse commute so you don't have to deal with bridge traffic. I drive from the Marina and it's only 45 minutes, which is good for the bay area. It's an easy drive from anywhere in East Bay.

    Cons

The product is not particularly sexy or exciting (the PI System is a plant information system that collects, stores, archives, analyzes, and displays time-series data) like the products of other bay area tech companies, however it plays a vital role behind the scenes in a whole host of industries, including pharmaceutical, mining, manufacturing, power, oil & gas, and chemicals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to keep up with the times and update products and services accordingly. Things are moving fast in tech but we seem to be keeping up.

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Exceptional Company Culture, Nurturing of Career Growth, Flexibility of Movement within the Organization, Working with other highly educated, interesting, and innovative thinkers creates a great environment for technical growth.

    Cons

There aren't a whole lot of Cons that I can target outside of the things you run into in any software organization. There is definitely a need to make the software development and release process more efficient.

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time

    Pros

It is a 30+ year old company. With a goal to "survive" - bottom line is the company is very conservative. It has strong customer base - in the Power , Pharma, Energy , Oil and Gas market.
The people are smart and nice. Slowly migrating to agile/scrum - so that is good.

    Cons

The new employee orientation - etc hasnt hit the sweet spot yet. People sometimes get to do thing - that arent a 100% fit for them.

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

At OSI they don't think about the short term. They play the long game and they expect their employees to do likewise. They don't like talent to leave and try to build an environment that encourages people to spend 30 years at OSI. For better or for worse, it is a private company that still maintains its family-run feel.

    Cons

One of the flips sides to having a company with a very long view of things is that they sometimes move slowly to new markets. They are trying to change this, but you also need to remember that their customers are even slower to make changes.

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time

    Pros

    - There is good work-life balance. Most people rarely have to work beyond 9 to 5 and the work environment is relatively low stress.
    - Job security

    Cons

    - Development work is not very interesting.
    - Management seems disorganized and communicates poorly.
    - There is a tension between the old way of doing things and attempts to implement new systems and processes which makes things even more disorganized and confusing.
    - Stodgy culture -- not a lot of young developers.

    Pros

Compensation is good, if you show interest in a certain area management if flexible enough to allow you to move within the company once you've worked for 1 full year

    Cons

Salary raise is not that great
Bonus is not guaranteed depends on how the company is doing

I have been working at OSIsoft full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Good work-life balance; energetic team; good working environment; frequent exposure to cutting-edge technology and other leading companies in various industries such as the oil and gas;

    Cons

The company may need to further improve recognition within the industry and expedite expansion so as to attract talents to join the team and therefore to stay competitive

I have been working at OSIsoft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Pleasant, encouraging coworkers. Freedom to offer input on the project your working on and make it your own. accessible and thoughtful mid-upper management. Interns are treated with respect and included in all scrum meetings.

    Cons

Experience is highly dependent on the manager you are placed under. Middle-range compensation (still good, just not *great*). For interns, work is typically that which can be handed off easily, which usually means it's less interesting and more of the mundane 'grunt work.'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encouraging more concrete feedback from managers to interns would take the learning experience a little further.
