Former Employee – worked at Oakwood Healthcare part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great Staff that educates new hires. Excellent physicians well recognized. Newly remodeled single patient rooms, well organized.
Cons – Advancement in opportunity was never offered. Insurance expensive to pt time workers
Advice to Senior Management – Be more involved with employees that arent RNs or Physicians. Some of the most demanding jobs are those who work under RNs. From my experience i came in more contact with patients and spent more time with them than nurses. Ideas to improve things during meetings were never listened to in meetings. The "budget" was more important than having proper things for the job. I was told when i got hired i would have opportunity for full time. I never was offered any position after 3 years and above avg reviews

Current Employee – been working at Oakwood Healthcare full-time for less than a year
Pros – Hospital is clean and the pay is good.
Cons – Horrible working environment. Everyone in that hospital seems to have a chip on their shoulder. I didn't realize it until I worked there a couple of months. Too much stress, it's not worth the extra $1.00 an hour.
Advice to Senior Management – Watch your preceptors. Don't just throw a new employee in with just anyone.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at Oakwood Healthcare full-time for more than a year
Pros – This hospital is terrible. I would not send anyone I cared about to the Dearborn location.
Cons – Terrible experience. Rigid, unflexible schedules, low pay and recognition, poor treatment by doctors of patients and nurses. Too many patients, not enough help and resources. Doctors do not respond and are rude. Nursing staff is petty and unprofessional (lots of ADNs). NAs not helpful. Left by choice and am much happier now. FYI I have a BSN and have never met such unprofessional people.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire more BSNs and hold people accountable, from NAs to doctors. Establish a culture of respect, particularly for women.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Oakwood Healthcare full-time for more than a year
Pros – Oakwood has a great medical benefit package and very knowledgeable physicians. The pay at Oakwood is very rewarding - probably higher than most hospitals in this area.
Cons – The one downside to working at Oakwood is the attendance policy. They do not have a grace period for tardies and that is sometimes needed. They also do not excuse absences for anything. Not illness, death, or anything.
Advice to Senior Management – Be a little more fair. Assist staff at all times, not only when state is in the building.

Former Employee – worked at Oakwood Healthcare
Pros – Multi cultural experience, nice work environment, employees are generally friendly and competent
Cons – Pay is lower than most hospitals, high demand and expectations placed upon staff, decisions seem to be made by upper management that do not take all factors into consideration

Former Employee – worked at Oakwood Healthcare
Pros – Salary is good in comparison to others in my occuaption.
Very clean physical environment.
Landscape is well groomed.
Presence of Security Staff is comforting.
Cons – Stop matching funds for employers 401K.
Provides insurance benefits for your pets, but not for Significant Others/Partners.
Unlike other health systems, Oakwood does not have "sexual orientation" as a protected class in their 'Non-Discriminatory" clause.
Physicians are placed on such a "High Pedestal" that it is out of control. This leads to disrespect to fellow employers.
Advice to Senior Management – Offer more incentives for your employers (i.e., percentage of matching funds for 401K, Promote Diversity of all classes and backgrounds. Inform physicians that all employess have an important role in the care of patients, and to value and respect those more who are not physicians and the experiences they can contribute).

Current Employee – been working at Oakwood Healthcare
Pros – Close location to home. Good pay.
Cons – Too many managers. They don't know what it's like to work with patients anymore.
Advice to Senior Management – Have no clue what it takes to run the floors and departments. Need to look at the issues in person. Not solve issues just on paper from there desks.

Former Employee – worked at Oakwood Healthcare
Pros – Some very good clinical people; good focus on patients/. Cross cultural programs are outstanding. The "My Voice/My Choice" patiet advocacy tool is a national leader.
Cons – Ridiculous expectations of time commitments; rigid schedules; arbitrary policies; nonfunctional HR system to address employee issues. Very behind the curve re: telecommunications among staff. Rigid hierachy that doesn't include sufficient female executives in the leadership sector
Advice to Senior Management – Get out of Dearborn; drive around; talk to other systems; have lunch with your employees. Stop thinking the world begins and ends with Dearborn---move executive offices from the posh digs you currently have to somewhere where your employees actually work.
