I worked at Oasis Petroleum as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of work; young aggressive company; followed the "80/9" work schedule which allowed you to have every other Friday off, if you chose to, if not, you would work the 40 hour week M-F

    Cons

very very clickish; favoritism ran rampant; one of the manager's was a tyrant; expected contract workers to be there 24/7, even if health issues needed addressing; health issues were held against you and used this as a reason to let you go. Extremely high turn over rate for workers, contract as well as direct hire.

    Advice to Management

Get a new Manager, someone who recognizes hard work, and rewards accordingly, and understands that workers are human beings with a life outside of the office, that sometimes needs to be addressed. Follow the "Golden Rule" in and out side the confines of the office.

    Pros

Decent pay, Great place to learn and gain experience.. Executives have a very good log term plan for the company.

    Cons

Terrible upper management, promotions are based on buddy system and not on ability. Also if you come from a school that they don't like you don't get promoted and you get a lower salary than peers.

    Advice to Management

stop handing out promotions to drinking buddies, select people based on experience and leadership ability. Hold people acountable.

    Pros

The company culture over all is good, the people are friendly and they provide free drinks for employees. Most people are willing to help in any way they can with questions you may have.

    Cons

The office is chaos. There is so much work to do and not enough people to do it. A lot of time was spent sitting in meetings talking about what to do instead of really doing it. They bring in lunch several times a week so that no one will have to leave their desk.

I worked at Oasis Petroleum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company believes in sharing the wealth they contribute and then some to your 401K Give nice bonuses and I was given multiple raises sometime within the same year

    Cons

Middle Management that grew with the company still treats the departments like a small company sticking with what they know and believing this will get them to the next level because it has work for them so far. Middle Management also can be bullies and have in the past bullied their staff, complaints went to both Sr. Management and H.R. but it seems little could be done, even though there was collaborating evidence to the facts

    Advice to Management

Embrace change, worry less about who you think got you to where you are instead realize that the growth was organic and had nothing to do with management staff
